DC Electronic Loads- go high performance New range of High Performance/ High Speed DC Electronic loads from Kikusui

The PLZ-5W Series high performance electronic load is the successor to the highly respected PLZ-4W series, whilst still retaining the same high specification and build quality. Advances include a high visibility colour display, low voltage operation from a minimum of 1 V to a maximum of 150 V (Lower Input voltage possible at reduced current). Programmable profiles of voltage/current can be applied (using the new ARB function, as used in LED/solar testing) in addition to the inherited 6 modes of operation: Constant Current, Constant Resistance, Constant Voltage, Constant Power, Constant Current + Constant Voltage, Constant Resistance + Constant Voltage.

Achieving a rise time of 4 S to reach the rated current of the electronic load.

Power supply evaluation demands a fast transient response which the PLZ-5W series achieves with ease.

LAN (LXI)/USB/RS232C as standard interface. Use a browser from a PC, smartphone, or tablet to access the web server built into the PLZ-5W series for convenient control and monitoring.

In ARB mode arbitrary I-V characteristics can be set by entering multiple I-V points (voltage and current value set points).

From 3 to 100 points can be registered and the space between two points is automatically linearly interpolated.

+ touch-screen option MMS Electronics Ltd has available an exceptionally versatile line of alphanumeric and graphic displays for use in industrial, commercial and battery powered applications. 12 different COG/DOG display sizes to choose from. The latest addition to this popular display family is EA DOGXL240-7 with 240x128 pixels. The module size is 94x67 mm with view area of 90x47 mm (3.9”). A display this size can easy show 6 line of 40 characters or 8 lines of 20 large characters. This display has a low current consumption of 900 µA making it ideal for battery powered applications. The EA DOGXL240W-7 and EA DOGXL240N-7 with FSTN pos. technology are readable without backlight.

For applications where a backlight is required these DOG display are simply plugged into the LED backlight modules. Four colours backlights are available “white, amber and a dual green/red”. The dual backlight option is ideal for applications where a green (normal) or red (warning) status indication is required.

Low-cost AC inrush current limiter

Powersolve's ESB-101 is a low-cost peak inrush current limiter designed for capacitive loads in a variety of applications across automation systems and machinery. The ESB-101 is available in either 115VAC or 230VAC versions and limits power-up currents and provides continuous operation up to 16A.

According to Powersolve’s Managing Director Peter Clark, it is designed to provide high reliability and maintenance-free operation. “Very nasty conditions can occur on AC lines in the event of a break in the supply” Says Peter Clark. “When power returns, high current peaks can often cause havoc and will trip circuit breakers. In decentralised areas, this will often lead to increased maintenance costs as the breakers require re-setting. This current limiter prevents this happening.” He adds.

Not to be confused with a simple NTC (thermistor) solution, the ESB-101 is a true current limiter and cuts off all peak currents when starting loads under practically every AC condition. It is fitted with an internal temperature fuse to prevent overheating should the bypass circuit fail.

The ESB- 101 has an inrush limiting time as low as 300ms, a capacitance range of 1500µF to 4000µF and an operating temperature range of -40 to +70ºC, it can be wall or DIN Rail mounted, accepts 26 to 10 AWG wire with screw terminals and is housed in an IP20 rated housing.

The limiter is designed to be integrated into capacitive loads such as AC-DC power supplies running in parallel operation. When started, these can cause peak currents in the region of several hundred amps which will trip breakers or disrupt network installations. The ESB-101 is a cost-effective way to prevent this. Many other models available with higher current ratings.

Powersolve powersolve.co.uk How to check your enclosure cooling

Manufacturing automation systems are delicate and very expensive pieces of kit, which perform vital functions for the businesses they serve. The enclosures that protect them must have strictly controlled internal environments with interior temperatures that are carefully maintained within a few degrees. If not, the impact can be harmful to the inverter drives, power supplies, contactors, PLCs and other electrical and electronic components operating within them.

This requires careful control of the climate within the enclosure. Here, Jason Swann, Rittal Product Manager for Climate offers some practical tips on

how to evaluate an existing enclosure climate control through a series of simple checks.

Like all electrical equipment, drives create heat and they therefore have a major influence on the temperatures inside enclosures. Drives are often quoted as having efficiency of 97%, so one with a rated output of 150kW can produce as much as 4.5kW of heat.

As well as the heat loss inside the enclosure, ambient temperatures within a production facility will also have an impact on the temperatures that a drive is operating within. A typical enclosure climate control system is designed for an internal enclosure temperature of 35°C. This means that the performance of a cooling unit should be specified so that the average internal enclosure temperature of 35°C can be guaranteed under all load conditions and under all the ambient conditions that could be met at the machine’s location.

Advanced instrument enclosures raise the bar

New aluminium enclosures been launched by METCASE for medical instruments, test and measurement, industrial control, peripherals, interfaces, switchboxes, communications and laboratory equipment. Smart and modern TECHNOMET enclosures are engineered to fine tolerances in order to replicate the high quality aesthetics and ergonomics usually found only on moulded plastic enclosures. Diecast front and rear bezels fit flush in the case body giving a cohesive design.

Front and rear snap-on trims hide the front panel and case fixing screws, giving a modern screw-free look to the housings.

TECHNOMET is available in eight standard sizes ranging from 75x225x200mm to 150x350x275mm. All sizes are available with or without a tilt/swivel carry handle bar that doubles as a desk stand. It can be inclined in 30° increments so users can choose the optimum viewing angle. The largest desktop models are supplied with recessed side handles for easier carrying.

TECHNOMET has a robust inner chassis which is fitted to the base panel. The wraparound top cover slides over the chassis and is located on hook-profiled rails on the underside – allowing swift access to the components inside.

Electronics engineers can choose between two options when fitting PCBs in the TECHNOMET case: a single PCB can be installed on four pre-fitted M3 mounting pillars in the base panel; or multiple slide-in PCBs (3, 5, 7 or 9 depending on case size) can be fitted to the chassis using clip-in anti-vibration guides (accessories). This maximises capacity and offers a range of PCB installation options.
