Advertorials Precision impedance analyzer and LCR meter
With the launch of the 5 MHz MFIA, Zurich Instruments is introducing a new type of impedance analyzer and precision LCR meter. The instrument is based on Zurich Instruments’ proven lock-in amplifier technology, allowing more accurate (0.05%, typical) and faster (upto 20 ms per measurement point) measurements over a larger frequency range in comparison to conventional impedance analyzers.
The MFIA impedance analyzer is ideal for impedance measurements from 1 m to 10 G in the frequency range 1 Hz to 5 MHz; DC measurements can also be performed.
The instrument’s LabOne user interface comes with a number of new features specifically designed for impedance analysis: the Compensation-Advisor supports the user step-by-step through the elimination of unwanted parasitic effects between the instrument and the probe; the Confidence-Indicator calculates the reliability level of the measurement based on the measurement parameters and sets a warning flag in critical cases; the Parametric Sweeper allows fast and simple automation of measurement tasks.
An embedded webserver makes software installation unnecessary, with the instrument being easily accessible via a web-browser. Measurement data can be transferred directly to PC and, for programmers, APIs and examples for LabView, MATLAB, Python and C are included.
The MFIA can be used for a broad range of applications including the characterization of semiconductor materials, components, and solar cells as well as dielectric spectroscopy, bio- impedance, and microfluidics.

FiDUS launches the world’s smallest 40W AC-DC
open frame power supply FiDUS Power announces the TCF40 series of single output, open frame AC-DC power supplies. This series of product is capable of delivering 40W of power, convection cooled and a peak rating of 50W for 60s. We believe this product to be the smallest of this type in the world, measuring only 76.2 x 38.1 x 23.5mm. This enables it to be used in a multitude of applications where system designers are looking to lead their markets with size reduction of end equipment. The product is also well priced with a standard 1 off cost of £18.65, which is very competitive in our market.
This 1.5 x 3” footprint sees a steady evolution of the 40W open frame area; 20 years ago you would have been offered a 3 x 5” package size. More recently the 2 x 3” footprint has become prevalent; the TCF40 sees a further 25% reduction in size. The range consists of seven different models from 5 to 48VDC output. The operating temperature range is 0 - 70ºC with full load to 50ºC.
The series is very energy efficient, consuming less than 0.1W during no load conditions and with efficiencies up to 91% limits waste heat into your system, runs cooler and helps maintain a good product lifetime. The product operates from 90 – 264VAC input with no derating and meets EN55022 (EN55032) class B for both conducted and radiated noise, making the path to compliance much simpler. The TCF40 is certified to IEC/UL/CSA/EN60950-1 for safety.
As with all supplies from FiDUS Power, the TCF40 is protected by a 5-year warranty, competitively priced and available to be purchased direct from our website. Why not take a look at the TCF40 product page for further details including 3D models?

Micro Crystal 32.768 kHz oscillator module
consumes less power Advanced Crystal Geometry leads to even smaller package
Micro Crystal, the leading provider for quartz crystals, oscillators, OCXOs and Real-Time Clocks for the world's leading electronics industry now offers the popular oscillator in the advanced tiny package of just 1.2 * 2.0 * 0.7 mm. This hermetically sealed package hosts the integrated circuit together with the XTAL. It withstands harsh environmental condition. Aside the large supply voltage range it features very low power consumption. In active mode it draws as low as 1 A driving one CMOS load. Since the oscillator is running also in stand-by mode (i= 0.45 A) the accurate frequency is available instantaneously, no delayed startup time, as typical e.g. for AT-oscillator, must be cared for. Through factory calibration the accuracy is superior to solutions with external XTAL.
The wide supply voltage range of 1.6 to 5.5 V combined with the large operating temperature range of - 40°C to + 85°C, low power consumption and small package size makes it ideal for future applications: Wearables and Activity Bands • IoT, Smart Pens • Industrial Computing, Single-board controller Health Care devices • Clock Source (i.e. for sleep mode Bluetooth LE)
Automotive grade devices are ideal for: Emergency Call Units, Remote Keyless Entry systems.

Industry standard photovoltaic connectors now part of the
Stäubli brand The MC4 solar power connector range is now part of the Stäubli Electrical Connectors brand. The high performance PV units, which have become a de facto industry standard, were branded as Multi-Contact before the company's change of name earlier this year.
More than 1 billion photovoltaic connectors in the MC4 family have

More than 1 billion connectors in the MC4 family have been connected worldwide over the past 20 years. The latest member is the MC4-Evo2.
been installed worldwide over the past 20 years, often operating in the harshest of environments.
The snap-fit MC4 units are suitable for cable cross-sections from 1.5 mm² to 10 mm² and are rated for currents up to 45A. Resistance to UV, ammonia and salt spray enables the IP68 rated devices to operate in harsh environments.
Although only small, they can have a large impact on the bankability of PV plants. Their use of MULTILAM technology, a proprietary contact system that uses spring contact elements to produce multiple contact points, ensures low service cost, low power losses and reduced downtimes.
The latest addition to the MC4 range is the MC4-Evo2, whose high voltage rating of up to 1500V dc means that solar power operators can benefit from longer cable strings when linking solar fields. It has a high current carrying capacity of up to 69A, helped by a streamlined design that improves heat dissipation.
As the manufacturer of both products, Stäubli Electrical Connectors can guarantee that the Evo2 is fully compatible with the original MC4, a claim that producers of look-alike connectors cannot substantiate.
