Since becoming a Master Beekeeper, Christine is even more aware of the gaps in her knowledge, so it came as litle surprise to learn that she is considering taking the National Diploma in Beekeeping, perhaps in three to four years’ time.
Now chair of Romsey BKA, Christine joins John Hanks as a Master Beekeeper in the association ranks and actively encourages members to learn more about bees and beekeeping. On the day that I met her she took me to see her apiary and, making the most of the trip, collected samples of bees for that evening’s association microscopy session.
With the seemingly incessant rains this spring, it has been more like wading than paddling across Wallop Brook as the water level has risen to the highest level that Christine has seen, but her apiary in the meadow is still safe. The early spring forage there is as good as ever – by the beginning of March, she had already spoted three different pollen colours coming in.
