THERE’S NO doubt that things are looking brighter. Companies are hiring again, optimism is at last back with us, and exhibitions, theatres, activities and indeed the FX Design Seminars are all on the horizon. Te tantalising prospect of being out in public again has led us at FX to explore the
work of Carol Johnson, who spearheaded landscape design in the 1950s and 60s, and while she only died last year, her legacy stacks up with the greats. Stephen Hitchins explores those in-between green spaces that Johnson helped pioneer, and looks at what contemporary landscape designers are doing as well. In keeping with the outdoor theme, we are delighted to flag the upcoming Barbara Hepworth exhibition at the Hepworth Wakefield gallery, which coincides with a new biography of the artist Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life, reviewed in these pages by Dr Victoria King. Tis is architecture as sculpture – or the other way round. And the FX Awards entries are now live – see page 104 for our
amazing 28 judges, who have pledged to choose the best and most exciting winners in all categories. Tey have been invited for their independence, integrity and extensive knowledge, so entrants will be in safe hands. See you soon.
