Bridget Love Meehan has resigned from her post as the executive director for the Washington International Horse Show.
Konrad Wayson and Mike Algeo have been appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to the Maryland Racing Commission, replacing chairman John McDaniel and Mary Louise Preis. Jackie Savoye has been named farm trainer at Merryland Farm (Hydes).
Fond farewell…
…to Matt McCarron, who leaves Merryland Farm for Doug Fout’s steeplechase barn in Virginia; …real estate agent and foxhunter Mary Anne Ridgely, who moved to Wagener, South Carolina.
Maryland Eventer Katie Dreyer married Christopher Marquette on October 29 at the Black Horse Inn in Warrenton, Virginia.
Maryland Will Miss
Joe Miller of Kingsville died on December 15. He was 53. Miller worked at Maryland race- tracks for around 30 years, most recently as part of the track maintenance crew. He was best remembered as the tracks’ longtime ambulance driver. In 2015, Miller was recognized by the Maryland T oroughbred Horse Association with the Special Unsung Hero Award for his contributions to Maryland tracks during races and training sessions. Miller was also an avid photographer, taking photos during training sessions, around the track and of the various wildlife that call Laurel and Pimlico home. Miller got his start with the Maryland Jockey Club as a tractor driver after running the shed row for trainer Richard Delp.
Mary Ann Scire of Frederick died on Novem- ber 23 at the age of 71. She was the secretary of the Rose Hill Carriage Club and enjoyed carriage driving. Scire was a retired administra- tive assistant for the Frederick County Health Department.
Jody William Carter of Frederick died on November 25. He was 52. Carter showed and drove Mules and was a member of the Mary- land Draft Horse and Mule Association.
Patricia “Pat” Kriemelmeyer of La ON THE MEND
A speedy recovery to 16-year-old Ryan Mearig of Stockbridge Manor Farm, who was severely injured when an ice-covered tree branch fell on him during the mid-December storm. As of press time, Mearig was still at John Hopkins.
Plata died on December 11. She was 60. She was the founder and owner of Takoma Park Animal Clinic and also worked for many years as a Maryland State Veterinarian with race horses. Kriemelmeyer was also a member of the Maryland Saddle Association and was president of the Maryland Veterinary Association.

Beau Brendel was born to Amy (Amy Brendel Photography) and Justin Brendel (Level Land) on December 1.
Franklin Dodd Miller, Jr. of Still Pond died on December 7 at the age of 79. In addition to serving with the Maryland National Guard, Miller ran his family’s agriculture and dairy farm in Still Pond with his wife Nancy Sutton. He was also a member of the Cloverleaf Stan- dardbred Owners Association and bred, trained and raced Standardbreds. His most successful horse was Stargazer Lily.
Frederick “Fred” Boswell Goodson, Sr., 70, died on December 17 at his home in Edgewa- ter. Born in Georgia, Goodson was a member of the fi rst graduating class of Walt Whitman High School in 1964. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. Most recently, he tended to the horses at Katerina “Shim” Graham’s Stengaarden Farm in Denton.
