Paris Triennale September 20-25, 2016 Free to attend, the Paris Triennale is a huge contemporary art show. This year it’s being held at the Bastille Design Centre with artists from France, Vietnam, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and Indonesia all exhibiting. The opening party runs from 5pm to 10.30pm on September 20, and from then on the show is open every day from 11am to 7.30pm. www.artec-artmondial.fr


Festival of Lights Fête des Lumières December 8-11, 2016


The French are indisputably the


world leaders in light shows, and of all the French cities to host these type of events, Lyon is perhaps the most famous. The tradition dates back to the 1600s when Lyon was struck by plague, and residents lit candles in honour of the Virgin Mary, hoping to escape death. Nowadays there’s a lot more than mere candles, with some of the world’s best light technicians showing off their skills and illuminating various buildings around the city.
