SECURITY ISSUE 61 - AUTUMN 2016 D

uring these immensely challenging times, City Security magazine continues to offer support to colleagues in the world of security by

sharing ideas, experience and knowledge. Our thoughts are with everyone caught up in recent terrorist incidents across the world.

Our autumn edition has dual themes: firstly, we look at the threats and challenges facing security for the retail sector and secondly, we explore aspects of security know-how, examining a range of ideas for broadening your understanding of security and developing your career.

Our spotlight on retail security begins with a discussion from Tom Ward on how large retail parks can deal with the very real threat from terrorism.

Focusing on retail crime, Jenny Sims from Merseyside Police explains how a concerted approach is helping in Liverpool and Barry Dawson describes how a partnership approach to anti-social behaviour and crime in Blackburn is bringing results.

We welcome Hugo Rosemont, from the British Retail Crime Consortium to City Security magazine, who covers how the retail industry can square up to ever-increasing cybercrime.

Richard Diston, writing on behalf of The Security Institute, begins our discussion on career pathways, and Skills for Security provide insight with some specific examples. Emily O’Mahony, a recent winner of the BSIA Chairman’s award, describes implementing a blended training culture.

In a related area, and given the sheer volume and spontaneity of recent attacks, Will Geddes considers whether the summer of 2016 is a game changer for security. Don Randall MBE provides an update on CSSC and our profile is of Jayne King, Head of Security at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust.

Let’s meet up in autumn

Our magazines will be available at the Security Institute annual conference on 22 September; The National Security Summit in London on 19 October; and the new one-day event from Wired Security in October. You can find details on our home page www.citysecuritymagazine.com.

Looking ahead to winter, we are delighted to be media partners with UK Security Expo at Olympia on 30 November and 1 December, where our magazines will be included in the welcome pack for all 8,000 security visitors. This brings our distribution up to approximately 18,000 copies, making it by far the largest printed security publication in the UK.

Subscribe for our free digital version - now available on all devices

And finally, we have upgraded our digital version to HTML5, so the magazine can be read on smartphones and tablets, with all web links and email addresses fully enabled. Free subscription from our website page www.citysecuritymagazine.com/request-digital.php
