City Cadets meet the Queen

The Queen celebrates becoming the longest serving Captain General of the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC)

C

adet Delaney and Cadet Adamson were both given the honour of meeting the

Queen recently at the Honourable Artillery Company, home to their weekly parade nights.

The Queen’s visit marked the celebration of her becoming the longest serving Captain General and she unveiled a statue to celebrate her 64 years as head of the HAC.

Both cadets, whilst extremely proud to have been selected, admitted to being somewhat ‘terrified’ at the same time. Words that came to mind included ‘star struck’, ‘blinded’ and ‘amazed’; neither of the two could believe that they were actually standing face to face with the Queen and were given the privilege of speaking with her.

Cadet Delaney described how her words were softly spoken and questions centred on what he liked most about being a cadet and what hoped to achieve.

Both cadets described the opportunity as one of the most privileged things they have done to date, with close family shedding the odd tear along the way.

King William Street in London to discuss Project Griffin

Initially David was a reluctant participant, as in his mind he is “just doing his job”; however, with over 15 years’ experience working in security he is obviously doing something right, which reflects in his promotion to Supervisor and that he is well thought of by his peers (and client).

David first attended the Project Griffin Awareness Day eight years ago when it was more IRA focused, but having attended the new Project Griffin module in May this year he said that it was really interesting and right up to date.

He thoroughly enjoyed the course and felt that the length of the course and the content were set just at the right level. The main thing he took away from the day was an increased awareness and added confidence in being able to report anything he felt was out of the ordinary (something that David and his team do as and when required).

He added that at his place of work there has been a total buy-in to Project Griffin, with the whole team having attended the course and with the client himself attending only last month.
