Over the last couple of years, the banking technology sector has witnessed several emerging areas. Banks are increasingly looking beyond traditional back office technologies and increasing their investments in areas such as mobility, payments, customer relationship management and risk analytics. In line with these trends and keeping the long-term view of the banking technology industry in mind, the IBS SLT has been expanded to include four new categories: CRM, Digital Bank- ing and Channels, Payments Systems and Risk Management.


In all, 186 deals made it into the IBS SLT across these four new areas. The digital banking and channels category witnessed the largest participation, both in terms of number of suppliers, as well as deals. More than 70% of the deals in the new categories were in the developing regions; Asia, Africa and Middle East, mirroring the trend in the conventional back of- fice systems space.


CRM Banking Edition from CRM Next is the clear winner of the inaugural IBS SLT for CRM Systems, with 12 deals in 2016. The company has focused on the Asian and Middle East regions, and won deals from notable clients including National Bank of Oman. It also picked up a couple of contracts in Tanzania and Philippines in 2016. VeriTouch, the CRM offering from Turkey based Veripark, is the runner up with six deals. Five of these were in the African region, with the system being implemented by banks across the continent including Namibia, Morocco and Ghana.
