On the move


Standard Chartered has appointed a new group CIO, Dr Michael Gorriz. He will join the bank in Q3 2015 and will be based in Singapore, reporting to the incom- ing group CEO, Bill Winters. Gorriz moves from Daimler AG, where he spent 14 years in various senior roles, most recently as vice-president and CIO. He will replace Jan Verplancke at Standard Chartered who is leaving after an eleven-year tenure. Standard Chartered is in the midst of


a major shake-up and cost-cutting pro- gramme, hoping to save $400 million in 2015.


There have been a number of notable departures at Misys. Rick Medlock, who became Misys’ CFO in September 2013, has left. He joined Misys from Inmarsat plc, a mobile satellite services company, where he had been CFO for nearly ten years. Meanwhile, Frank Brienzi, who joined


Misys as president and chief sales officer in mid-2013 from rival vendor Oracle FSS, is leaving the company imminently, it is understood. Another recent departure is Martin Cheetham, who was sales manager, Cen- tral and Eastern Europe. He is now at HCL Technologies.


There has been a shuffle at the top of UK exchanges of late, with Steve Briscoe join- ing LCH.Clearnet as group head of tech- nology and operations. He replaces Martin Ryan who has moved to LCH.Cleanet’s par- ent, the London Stock Exchange, as group head of shared services. Briscoe joins from RBS, where he spent five years, most recently as global head of operations for the markets division. Prior to RBS, he spent 15 years with UBS. Ryan and Briscoe will work together to develop shared services for LCH.Clearnet.


Smartstream has recruited Daniel Peders- en as European head of sales and business development. He previously held a num- ber of roles over a four-year stint at Risk- Metrics, and then worked at MSCI after it acquired RiskMetrics in 2010. Prior to this, he worked at BNP Paribas and Deutsche Bank.


John Palmiero has left Openlink Finan- cial, just over a year into his role as EVP, global field operations. Prior to his brief stint at Openlink, Palmiero spent two years as global head of sales at Misys. He had worked in a number of senior roles at Thomson Reuters/Misys since 1997.


Polaris Consulting & Services has recruit- ed Sanjay Vatsa as EVP and chief strate- gy officer, to focus on digital transforma- tion. He was previously global head of transformation, chief operating executive, data and operations strategy at Citigroup’s Securities and Fund Services. Earlier, he was also involved in strategic transforma- tion programmes at Blackrock, Capco and Merrill Lynch.


Temenos has appointed Kate Bolton as head of PR and communications, follow- ing the departure of Gurpreet Binning from the company. This is an internal move – Bolton joined Temenos last year as marketing manager for the cloud. Binning was with Temenos for around five years, and was also responsible for partner mar- keting. The vendor has also recruited a new


head of investor relations, Adam Snyder. Prior to joining Temenos, Snyder spent ten years in investment banking across Lon- don, Dubai and Singapore, working for JP Morgan and Hannam & Partners.


US-based core banking software vendor, Data Center Inc (DCI), has appointed Clay Hamlet as its new VP of sales and mar- keting, to focus on the vendor’s flagship offering, iCore360 core banking system, and related services. Hamlet comes with 35 years of experience, having worked for Computer Service Professionals Inc (CSPI), Jack Henry & Associates, Goldleaf Financial and Datatrade.


MyState Financial, Tasmania’s largest financial institution, has appointed Paul Moss as general manager, technology and operations. Moss moves from KPMG, where he was director of IT advisory. His hire at MyState comes as part of the insti- tution’s drive to take advantage of its new

core banking software, TCS’s Bancs. My- State went through a major back office overhaul in 2012/13, ousting the legacy Signature system from Fiserv.


Ripple Labs, a developer of payments protocol for value transfer over the inter- net, has hired long-time Yahoo exec and former Hightail CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, as its COO. Prior to joining Ripple Labs, Garlinghouse oversaw the rebranding of file-sharing service Hightail. He left the company in September last year.


Another COO appointment is Colm Hef- fernan at Fenergo, Ireland-based provider of client lifecycle management systems to investment managers and private banks. Heffernan has been poached from Ado- be Systems, where he spent 15 years in a variety of senior roles, most recently as senior director of Adobe Global Services. Heffernan replaces Dan Murphy, who


was COO and head of professional ser- vices at Fenergo for three years, having moved from Norkom Technologies short- ly after Norkom’s acquisition by BAE Sys- tems.


Yet another ex-SAP executive has joined Infosys. This is Anirban Dey, who was head of SAP Labs India. He is now global head of Infosys’ recently established sub- sidiary, Edgeverve (which is rumoured to be merging with the Infosys Finacle unit). Dey replaces Sanjay Purohit, who has been appointed as head of the ven- dor’s newly-formed consulting division (a merger between Infosys’ own consultan- cy unit and Lodestone Management Con- sultants, acquired by Infosys in 2012).


Martijn Groot has been appointed as VP of product strategy at Asset Control, a UK-based provider of data management solutions and services. Groot had orig- inally joined the vendor back in 2002, and spent ten years in various roles, most recently as director of marketing strategy. He left Asset Control in 2012 to join Igate, and then Euroclear a year later. At Euro- clear, he was director of product manage- ment information services.
