ARA INCOMING PRESIDENT

about a new and updated ARA website that ARA staff are currently working. The website will be a tool that will be full of information and updates that all auto recyclers, whether they are members or not, will want to be a part of.

When Swift thinks of his role ahead, he is most looking forward to continuing work on the legisla- tive side of the industry.

“I like the political side of the industry,” said Swift. “I enjoy working with our lobbyist and Board members and trying to educate our regulators on how we need laws to be better for auto recyclers. I especially want the laws to be enforced. I have made some great contacts over the years and hopefully I have made a difference when it comes to educating the representatives on what an auto recycler is, what we do and why the community needs us more than ever. The last few years in the industry I have been more frustrated than ever in trying to stay ahead in our business. “We are working on things to hopefully make business better. For my own business, we are focusing on getting leaner while trying to sell better

“I would tell everyone to get CAR certified today. If you need help, ask. ARA is working for all of us to get what they have in Canada. Be ready for when this happens in the USA.”

parts in bigger quantities. These are things that we learned from our Dad and from auto recycler Dale Swift, as well as from other fellow auto recyclers. “Without auto recyclers, can you imagine what would happen to all of these End-of-Life cars? In 1979 when I went to work for my dad, the industry was much easier than it is today. We used to be so much busier selling parts, and lots of them. Now we spend hours to just keep up-to-date with all of the requirements needed for OSHA safety require- ments and environmental issues. Today, it is espe- cially tough because of unlicensed individuals who junk cars out of their backyards. The laws need to be enforced to stop them. This is an issue that I will continue to fight to see enforced.”
