ARA Action Continued

organizations) that recently filed legal suit against EPA win in court. Their claims assert that the MSGP provides too much flexibility for permitted entities to imple- ment non-numeric effluent limitations, rather than bmps. In response to this legal challenge, the FSWA – which is administered by the law firm Barnes & Thornburg – has filed a motion to inter- vene in the case in order to provide the regulated party perspective as to why the Baykeepers/environmental groups’ claims should be denied. As an FSWA member and on behalf of ARA members, ARA is contributing to this effort and will be named in the suit. We routinely hear from our members about issues they experience with over- reaching permits and we are pleased to pursue this opportunity to protect our

members from stormwater permits based on numeric effluent limits rather than bmps. ARA will provide regular updates to members on the progress of this suit.

ARA-Wells Fargo OSHA Audit Checklist Now Available

RA knows well the efforts that pro- fessional automotive recyclers take to provide a safe workplace for their employ- ees. ARA identifies and provides needed resources to support those actions. One of the main proponents of resources made available to ARA members is pro- vided by the Safety Committee, through the tools they produce, including safety tips, a workplace safety newsletter, and training videos.

A new safety resource being made available to members is the ARA/Wells

Fargo OSHA Audit Checklist. This is a guide that outlines what you need to do to successfully meet the requirements of an OSHA audit. Wells Fargo Insurance Services worked with ARA to develop this guide specifically for professional automotive recycling facilities. If you would like a copy of this useful tool, please send an email to betsy@a-r- a.org. Let us know if you would like to participate in ARA’s Safety Committee.

ARA Participates in Affiliate Chapter Meetings

RA leaders participated in several recent affiliated chapter activities. Immediate Past President Ed Mac- Donald attended the Florida Auto Dismantlers and Recyclers Association (FADRA)’s annual meeting as the organ- ization celebrated its 40th anniversary. FADRA’s Convention was held at the Sheraton Sand Key in Clearwater Beach, Florida and included a Tampa Bay din- ner cruise, Denim and Diamonds themed dinner gala, and yard tour at Clearwater Auto Recycling.

Amber Elenbaas of Rebuilders Auto- motive Supply gave the keynote address on Friday and provided additional ses- sions on the topics of utilizing consisten- cy as a jumping off point for change and brokering parts. Robert Counts of CBCDashboard conducted educational seminars on managing in the digital age and measuring business leads and lags. A self-service panel discussion was well- attended, as were sessions by Benny Cunningham, co-owner of Cunningham Brothers Auto Parts in Rustburg, Virginia on cores and warranties. Congratulations to FADRA on its 40th anniversary and another successful Annual Convention!

ARA CEO Michael Wilson also had the opportunity to visit with automotive recy- clers and ARA members in Kentucky in July, attending the annual meeting of the Kentucky Automotive and Truck Recyc- lers Association (KATRA). 
