The RESTYLE of a Lifetime

by Courtney Toomey Freelance Writer

Interior Designer, Kristen Girouard, has made an amazing career full of creativity and color out of redesigning, restyling and rethinking spaces for her clients. From residential to commercial design and remodeling, Girouard has done it all and can now add a new experience to her already- impressive resume – mill restoration. A few years ago, this savvy designer took on the project of a lifetime: renovating an eighteenth century tidal mill to serve as the location for her thriving interior design business, Restyle Design Studio.

Girouard purchased the mill during the economic downturn not only to create a unique location to meet with and showcase her decorating talents to her clients, but also to generate some project opportunities for out-of-work contractors in the area. Since then, she has transformed the rundown, stark-looking building into an intimate space that is beautiful, classy and sophisticated. Flooring made from sanded wooden pallets along with exposed hardwood beams on the ceilings radiate a rustic, historic feel, while the photographs and artwork used to decorate the space tell an intimate story about the surrounding Warwick neighborhood and various Ocean State landmarks.

Now that the restyle is complete, we sat down with Girouard to talk about her career, her design style and the reasons why she took on the renovation of this historic landmark in Apponaug Village.
