Global Tourism Closing in on Pre-Pandemic Numbers Says WTTC


THE World Travel & Tourism Council says the global tourism sector is edging ever closer to its pre-pandemic 2019 peak. The WTTC 2023 Economic

Research shows the recovery will reach 95% this year with the sector forecast to reach $9.5 trillion, just 5% below 2019 pre-pandemic levels. According to to the report 34 countries have already exceeded 2019 levels. The research shows that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and prolonged travel restrictions had a significant impact on the global recovery however with China reopening in January, it predicts a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels by next year. Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said: “The global tourism sector continues to recover at pace, demonstrating its resilience and the enduring desire to travel.” “By the end of the year, the sector’s contribution will be within touching distance of the 2019 peak.”

airlines in Europe, Cirium have


revealed Europe’s most punctual airlines in March 2023, alongside the region’s current cancellation trends. For Europe, Austrian Airlines was named Europe’s most punctual carrier last month, with 88.62% of flights arriving on-time. LOT Polish Airlines landed second position, with over 88.32% of all flights arriving on- time. following shortly behind, ITA Airways, Finnair and Iberia also made the top five, offering customers punctual service on over 80% of flights. No UK airline featured in the top 10 of most punctual European carriers. Globally, the Brazilian airline Azul was named the most punctual airline in March,


with 89.87% of flights arriving at their destination on-time. The second spot was highly contested, with the Japanese airline ANA securing an 87.24% punctuality score, just head of rival Japan Airlines who took third place with 86.13%.The South American carriers of Avianca and LATAM Airlines took fourth and fifth spot, with 85.94% and 85.71% respectively. The number of cancelled flights within Europe rose 65% in March 2023 compared to the previous month. In March 2023, 14,405 flights were cancelled within Europe, up from 8,713 in February 2023. The number of cancellations rose in every global region in March, expect North America, where they fell 16% month-on-month. Data provided by Cirium

American Airlines To Expand Dallas Forth Worth And Charlotte Routes At Dublin Airport


Flying to North America is about to get a whole lot easier for Irish travellers with the news that American Airlines will upgrade its current summer-only daily service between Dublin and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to a year-round service from this October.


In a further boost, American Airlines has also confirmed that it will expand its daily summer service between Dublin and Charlotte,


starting earlier on March 1, next year.


American Airlines is


expanding both services on the strength of high demand from passengers at both ends of the US routes and US visitors who want to also access their partner Aer Lingus’ short-haul network into Europe from Dublin Airport. According to Vincent Harrison, Chief Commercial and Development Officer at Dublin Airport: “This welcome expansion is evidence of the strong demand for transatlantic travel between Dublin Airport and North America.
