A Trip to the Medieval Capital of Ireland I

n the time of Staycations and enjoying what is on your door step, NITN’s Chelsea set off for the Medieval Town of Kilkenny for a weekend break in the Hotel Kilkenny

A weekend away is sometimes what we need, time to chill and relax your mind, so Chelsea and her mum, Debbie jumped at the chance to visit somewhere new and enjoy a two night stay gifted by the 4*

Hotel Kilkenny. Although a little drive away (three hours

from Belfast), a road trip to Kilkenny was an exciting opportunity for the pair and aſter all… Who doesn’t love a carpool karaoke session? Bags packed, car fuelled, snacks bough and sat nav programmed; Chelsea and Debbie took in the scenic route to County Kilkenny, Ireland.

The Hotel Kilkenny is located around 10 minutes by car from the town centre, easy to find and navigate to; which is a lot coming from Chelsea, given she can’t find her way out of a paper

bag... Being so close to the town centre, made

it incredibly easy to manoeuvre around and enjoy the attractions during the day and the nightlife with a quick taxi in the evening. Upon arriving at the hotel, these two

knew it was going to be relaxing few days! Te patio area caught attention straight away, surrounded by greenery at the front of the hotel, where people can enjoy a bite of lunch and an aſternoon pint. Anyone who knows Chelsea is aware of her obsession with a good patio, so it called her name!

Red carpet rolled out at the front of the hotel started the weekend off right (between ourselves, the red carpet was

for wedding guests, but folks, you’ve got to adapt to what is in front of you so across the red carpet the two drama

queens strutted!) Lets get the ‘need to know’ out of the

way… Covid-19 procedures in the hotel are as following; Masks must be worm while moving through the hotel, except when eating and drinking and in your room. When using hospitality, masks must me worn until you are seated and then can be removed while eating. Sanitisation stations where placed everywhere throughout the hotel, reception, restaurants, elevators and restrooms. Signage is clear and includes step by step instructions. You are asked to maintain a 2m social distance between yourself and other guests at all times and make use of all the cleansing stations available.

Back to the good stuff…

checked in and excited to see the room, masks on and bags in toe, room 314 was calling our name! The room gifted by the Hotel Kilkenny was a Deluxe Room, Bed and Breakfast. This accommodation option is strictly adult only located in the newly refurbish area of the hotel. With 150 bedrooms on offer, the Hotel Kilkenny has something for everyone! You can choose between

Standard, Club (this is ideal for guests looking a little bit more space with extra sleeping facilities and work stations) and Deluxe. The Deluxe Rooms carry a sleek clean style, with cream and gold tones throughout the room, you feel the luxury they offer. All the information you need to know, including the app the hotel are using is outlined in a document waiting for you in every room. This was very helpful, it was clear from the start of the trip how the hotel was running in the midst of

Covid-19. Hotel Kilkenny has a huge range of

facilities available for the public and residents. With two restaurants; Taste Restaurant and Pure Bar you are not short for choice in where to dine. Due to restrictions at the time of stay, food and beverage could be served until 10.30pm, closing by 11.00pm and all tables must be booked in advance with a 1.5 hour time slots for the public and 2 hours for residences. To enjoy alcoholic beverages in Hotel Kilkenny, a minimum spend of €9.00 is required on food. With a substantial menu and a large selection of lunch options and evening meal choices, there is something for everyone! Chelsea would HIGHLY recommend the chilli chicken egg fried noodles, delish! Debbie, being the plainest eater in the world has fabulous things to say about the beef burger! If you wish to carry on the party in your room.. take advantage and enjoy a bevy 24/7 with room service!.

Moving on to everyone’s favourite part of a hotel stay… ‘The SPA! The Orchard Day Spa at Hotel Kilkenny’… it just sounds fabulous. With a arrange of treatments including The Stress Buster (a good back, neck and shoulder rub down) and Pamper Me Package (back, neck and shoulder massage with hot stones AND an anti- aging Yonka facial.. oooh, so fancy). For further information on booking visit: theorcharddayspa.ie or

phone (+353 (0)567756555. Hotel Kilkenny is a hotel that keeps on

giving… In case you fancy a wee swim, Te Active Health and Fitness club is open for bookings or if pumping iron is your vibe,

the gym is fully equipped for a sweating gym sesh (please note, neither Chelsea or Debbie participate in exercise but if either of them were up for giving it a go, it was at Hotel Kilkenny, looked amazing!). For further information on booking email; reservations@hotelkilkenny.ie or call +353 (0)871546635.

After a good nosey round,

it was time for pints pints pints (no judgment will be accepted, we were on our holibobs). With the sun beaming, 2 ice cold pints where delivered by the fabulous staff in the hotel and this mother & daughter dynamic duo sipped the afternoon away on the gorgeous patio surrendered by flowers with sunnies

covering their eyes! Both evenings where spent dining in the hotel, as mentioned above the menu was great so we had to try a few things out (a massive thank you for the complimentary meal the first night from the hotel) The whole dining experience was a good one, quick service from

the Pure Bar staff. Te atmosphere was lightly buzzed and

enjoyable for both a Friday and Saturday evening! Te Pure Bar promotes a open and spacious layout with rich colours lining the walls and a massive wall filled with the drink selection offered!

A statement from Hotel Kilkenny “Due to the Government esca- lating public health regulations to Level 3, people can no longer travel outside of their own coun- ties. As such Hotel Kilkenny is not in a position to remain open. Hotel Kilkenny will close from Wednes- day the 7th of October until the restrictions are lifted.”
