1 NOISE PREDICTION METHODOLGY


1.1 Introduction This document outlines the noise prediction methodology followed for the assessment of the construction of the electrical transmission works and converter station and the operation of the onshore converter station associated with the East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm. This document forms Appendix 26.1 to Volume 3, Chapter 26 of the Environmental Statement and should be read alongside this chapter, which also presents elements of the noise prediction methodology.


1.2 Construction Predictions - Landfall, Cable Trenching, Cable Route HDD and Converter Station


1.2.1 Prediction Method


Predictions for the construction phase of the project have utilised prediction methodology within BS 5228-1:2009 Code of practice for noise and vibration control on construction and open sites. Part 1: Noise. The BS5228 method incorporates ground absorption, distance attenuation and screening to predict noise levels at receptor locations.


1.2.2 Prediction parameters


The following worst case parameters have been used when calculating noise levels at receptor locations from construction works:


• Plant assumed at shortest distance from working width to receptor locations, except HDD locations, which are predicted from the middle of the closest end of HDD working area to receptor locations.


• Landfall, cable route HDD and converter station foundation assumed to be 24 hour operation.


• All plant for each construction scenario is considered operational at the same time, at the same location.


• Screening of intervening plant or topography not considered in predictions, except for plant within trench.


• On-time prediction based on a reasonably worst-case hour during each construction scenario.


Details of construction plant used within the assessment are presented in Volume 3, Chapter 26 of the Environmental Statement.
