Crisis management: Andrea C Martin

THE BIG DECISION Record Store Day will no longer be going ahead on June 20, as the coronavirus crisis has forced a second date change. Having announced a postponement to June from April 18 back in March, Record Store Day has now confirmed three separate ‘drop dates’ for this year’s limited releases. Titles will be available in participating record shops on three separate Saturdays: August 29, September 26 and October 24.

THE BIG RESULT Spotify has reported a 31% year-on-year increase in premium subscribers to 130 million in Q1. Total monthly active users (MAUs) also grew 31% to 286m in the quarter. The DSP said results had either met or exceeded expectations in all major metrics despite the pandemic. The company is maintaining its 2020 targets for MAUs and subscribers, but has reduced its revenue projections.

THE BIG MOVE Merlin has announced the promotion of Charlie Lexton to the newly created role of chief operating officer. He will continue to lead Merlin’s licensing efforts with existing and new digital partners. His expanded remit includes management of Merlin’s data analytics practice, which explores genre, geographic and other trends.
