lead character Marianne. Team Sentric are excited to be so involved in what could be one of the biggest sync shows of 2020. “Having finished the book just a week before Patrick Cloherty, our UK head of sync, was briefed, this was an absolute dream project,” says Rosie Hill, Sentric’s global head of sync. “It’s always a treat to work on a production with such a committed and vibrant approach to music supervision and the whole team dedicated time to the pitching process, which has resulted in such a wonderful selection of our music being chosen. I’m thrilled that we get to play a part in what is going to be such an enduring cultural phenomenon.” Music supervisor Juliet Martin

NORMAL PEOPLE/ BILLIE MARTEN

■ BY BEN HOMEWOOD

The popularity of Sally Rooney’s Normal People novel suggests that the nation will likely be talking about the TV adaptation for ages, which could be good news indeed for Sentric Music Group. Of 81 songs chosen for the show, which is airing via the BBC and Hulu, the UK-based publisher was responsible for licensing 17. Key among them is Billie Marten’s 2016 song La Lune, which features during an emotional montage of

able to turn around the briefs super-quickly. The breadth of their catalogue, their focus on emerging acts and the range and quality of their artists meant their music featured heavily.” Welcome to the new normal…

Wes is more: Wesley Joseph

Wesley Joseph THIS WEEK’S HOTTEST BRAND NEW ACT

KEY TRACK: Imaginary Friends LABEL: Eeviltwinn MANAGEMENT: Transgressive TWITTER: @wesley__joseph

WHO: Meet rapper and producer Wesley Joseph. You might have heard the soft stylings of his debut single Imaginary Friends, which came out last month.

WHAT: Night-time music, cut through with energy, courtesy of some rapid bars. Hip-hop, jazz and soul mix easily in Joseph’s hands, and Imaginary Friends has layer upon layer to unravel.

WHERE: He makes beats in his bedroom in London. He grew up in Walsall, making

12 | Music Week 04.05.20 music with the OG Horse collective.

WHAT’S THE SONG ABOUT? Joseph took inspiration from those nights when you just can’t shut down. The track whirrs and shifts, its restlessness reflected through a wave of lyrical distress. Even so, the production is super-chilled.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW? Joseph has a friend in Walsall neighbour Jorja Smith, and their music shares an intimate, unhurried quality. He’s linked up to Paradigm Talent Agency too, and the live show promises much, when we get there, of course.

NICE... Yep. Expect new music soon, too. musicweek.com
