In collaboration with Applied Graphene Materials UK Ltd., PURAGLOBE is developing sustainable base oils enhanced with graphene nano-platelets.

Graphene has many remarkable properties, including the hexagonal, lattice-like shape of its atoms, and its strength, which is estimated to be up to 200 times stronger than the strongest grade of steel. With graphene-enhanced base oil products, PURAGLOBE customers will be able to formulate lubricants that not only offer sustainability — but also exceptional performance, including protection against friction and wear.

PURAGLOBE and AGM have been collaborating since early 2015. Together, they’ve been meticulously engineering products and rigorously testing their performance. Their goal: to develop a new breed of sustainable base oils — enhanced with uniquely synthesized graphene nano-platelets.

The combination of PURAGLOBE’s sustainable base oils and AGM’s A-GNP nano-platelets will offer finished lubricant manufactures the opportunity to formulate products with exceptional sustainability and protection. These sustainable, graphene-enhanced base oil products will be offered by PURAGLOBE for formulating driveline fluids and industrial fluids such cutting fluids, greases, etc.

And whether they’re used for motoring, mobility, or manufacturing, sustainable, graphene-enhanced lubricants can help reduce friction and wear — which compounds the benefits

of sustainability even further. Greater protection against friction and wear can help extend the lifecycle of parts and equipment. This can lead to savings in manufacturing and production costs and reduce the demand for replacement parts, which can help lower the carbon footprint involved in manufacturing and other operations overall. This is just one example how cutting-edge base oil technology can potentially transform markets, industries, and manufacturing through sustainability..

SUSTAINABLE GROUP III+ BASE OILS: INNOVATION AHEAD Indeed, big changes typically don’t happen overnight. However, little things — like graphene nano-platelets used to enhance sustainable Group III+ base oil products and lubricants — often lead to major shifts and bigger developments.

And there’s a lesson to be learned from other industries and markets: deciding when to embrace an innovation is a pivotal decision that can lead to success or failure.

So when it comes to embracing sustainable base oils, such as PURAGLOBE’s new Group III+ base oil products and lubricants, it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” that will likely determine how far you can succeed — and sustainably move ahead — or how far you fall behind.
