Heli-One and Universal Avionics Announce STC Approval for AS332L/L1 Advanced Flight Display Upgrade

Heli-One has received supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for its Universal Avionics EFI-890H advanced flight display upgrade from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Transport Canada (TCCA). This STC is a part of the AS332L and L1 modernization program currently underway with the Bundespolizei (BPOL) German police and contracted by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The program includes a new Universal Avionics flight management system (FMS) to integrate with the displays. This STC covers the flight information display upgrade, replacing analogue systems with two 8.9- inch digital ‘smart’ displays that increase operational capability, reduce issues with aging instruments, and eliminate the costs of replacing or maintaining older analogue displays.

The EFI-890H advanced displays are capable of customization to show all primary flight information in a pilot-friendly, intuitive interface that enhances safety, improves situational awareness, and reduces pilot workload. The dual-screen installation allows for special mission equipment integration, such as synthetic vision with 3D terrain awareness. Combined with the upgraded

FMS, this cutting-edge and mission-specific navigation and control panel upgrade gives BPOL added long-term value to their AS332 fleet.

The modification consists of pilot and copilot EFI-890H primary flight displays (PFD) and course/heading control panels. The dual UNS-1Fw satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS)-FMS is also included, along with a multi-mission option for SAR variants. A single Universal Avionics radio control unit (RCU) provides control of both legacy and new radios.

“Our long-term relationship with Bundespolizei German police was key in making this modification a success,” said Anthony DiNota, president of Heli-One. “We are privileged to work with such a key law enforcement operator, who is unafraid of adapting to and maximizing the latest rotorcraft technology. This upgrade will greatly extend their operational capability and aircraft longevity – at a great value.”

“It has been a real pleasure to work together with Heli-One’s extremely competent and knowledgeable engineers to develop the integration and display software changes needed to support this program,” said Grady Dees, Universal Avionics director of technical sales. “The Heli-One team is second to none in the rotorcraft modification business.”

Able Aerospace Adds Agusta Bell 412 Repairs and Overhauls to Capabilities

Able Aerospace Services recently announced the addition of Agusta Bell 412 component repairs and overhauls to its broad menu of rotary-wing MRO capabilities. The announcement expands Able’s trademark cost savings and repair benefits to the Agusta-branded 412 platform, which is located largely in Europe and South America.

“Able has one of the industry’s most comprehensive platforms of Bell 412 component repairs, and we offer that expertise to operators across the globe,” said Able Aerospace Services business development manager Geno Forman. “The addition of Agusta Bell 412 capabilities means we can now extend that support to an entirely new, and largely underserved, market. We are excited to provide these operators with a way to save more money, avoid supply chain delays, and generally reduce their aircraft downtime.”

With customers in more than 60 countries, Able has a strong track record of delivering worldwide rotary-wing MRO support to multiple aircraft platforms. For the Bell 412, Able offers a full range of FAA-approved repairs and overhauls including, but not limited to: transmissions, main rotor hubs, elastomerics, hydraulics, and Level I and Level II bearings inspections and repairs. Additionally, Bell Helicopter supports nearly 200 AB412s worldwide with rotor blade repairs, composite panels, and various aeronautical accessories kits.
