Erickson Selected by Pan Aviation for Turkish Firefi ghting Contract

Erickson Incorporated recently announced that it has been selected by Pan Aviation to provide emergency fi re suppression support for the Municipality of Istanbul and the surrounding areas of Turkey. The agreement calls for the use of one specialized S-64E Aircrane to assist with regional fi re suppression and emergency response operations 365 days a year for two years.

Metro Aviation Places Order for Six EC145e Light Twins

Metro Aviation of Shreveport, Louisiana, has contracted to purchase six EC145e twin-engine helicopters from Airbus Helicopters Inc. Metro is the fi rst North American customer for this new lighter weight and lower cost version of the highly successful Airbus Helicopters EC145.

“Airbus Helicopters Inc. is excited that Metro Aviation has demonstrated its confi dence in our company and Airbus Helicopters products by making such a strong commitment to the EC145e,” said President Christopher Emerson. “With its lower acquisition price and increased payload capacity, the EC145e off ers operators an aircraft that can increase productivity and provide more economic value.”

The EC145e is a single-pilot, VFR aircraft that retains the power, performance, and reliability of the EC145 and has the same large cabin with rear clamshell doors for easy, safe loading and unloading. The EC145e glass cockpit features the Garmin G500H and GTN 650 GPS and communication system. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 7,903 pounds, the same as the EC145, but the useful load is up to 300 pounds greater. The aircraft can seat up to 11 passengers, depending on the confi guration.

Pan Aviation General Manager Kerem Magdenli states, “We are delighted to have Erickson’s specialized Aircrane and crew ready for fi re and emergency response for the Istanbul Municipality, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Istanbul Fire Department.” The aircraft will be based at the Ataturk International Airport and can be immediately dispatched for fi re and emergency calls anywhere in the greater Istanbul area.

This extended contract is the result of a highly successful 10 month trial period, in which Erickson and Pan Aviation worked together to provide customized fi refi ghting and disaster response for the Municipality of Istanbul. “The Municipality was extremely pleased with the aircraft capability, pilot expertise, uptime reliability, and multi-role function that Pan and Erickson cooperatively provided during the trial period,” said Andrew Mills, vice presid ent of commercial aviation for Erickson.
