companies and colleges developing apprenticeships, and from NHS Trusts actively using companies and apprentices as part of their estates activities. The initiative will also see delegates and visitors offered badges saying; ‘I was an apprentice’, to promote the feature, which should create quite a spectacle and buzz.” One of the other key themes at Healthcare Estates 2017 will be the need for productive partnerships between industry professionals, the NHS, and the private sector. Steve Webb said: “Healthcare Estates is regarded as the leading event for those involved with managing the healthcare estate and the vital engineering services that keep hospitals running efficiently, and this year’s conference will feature a series of keynote presentations by industry leaders, supported by workshops and streamed sessions, reflecting some of the great examples of private sector organisations helping NHS Trusts meet the targets set out in the Carter Report. “Among the key areas where collaboration can pay major dividends,” he continued, “are procurement and estate management. With Lord Carter having identified the potential to cut the running costs of English NHS acute hospitals by some £5 bn annually over the next four years, there are real gains to be made from blending the talents of NHS experts with commercial knowledge from the private sector. Decision-making perspectives can be broadened, and new tools and techniques introduced, without undermining the NHS ethos.”

dedicated streams and interactive sessions, this year’s flagship IHEEM conference will focus on the overall theme of ‘Building innovative and productive partnerships in asset management’, with real examples of collaboration and partnerships within healthcare. We had a record number of papers submitted for the call for papers this year, surpassing last year’s total, so we have a lot of quality content to choose from. That said, with five theatres on the exhibition floor, we are able to offer a tremendous amount of additional free content to support the main conference programme. The conference programme will be announced in May, with the exhibition theatre content launched in June.”
New conference pricing structure The organisers have also announced a new pricing structure for the conference, to enable NHS employees to pick specific
sessions to attend. Victoria Emerton explained: “We will still offer one- and two-day delegate packages, as in previous years. However, after consulting with the industry and IHEEM, we have introduced ‘Loyalty Discounts’ to the delegates that booked for 2016. Delegates will also have a choice of new ‘modules’ of conference content, allowing them to pick from two or three specific sessions over the two days. The new rates will appeal to those on a reduced budget who would still like to attend certain sessions at the conference, or delegates wishing to spend more time in the exhibition. We will still offer discounts for IHEEM members, NHS employees, Architects for Health members, and an ‘early bird’ conference discount until the end of June.” More details can be found at the event website:
www.healthcare-estates.com The conference sits alongside the UK’s biggest healthcare exhibition for those who design, build, manage, and maintain healthcare facilities. Steve Webb said: “By visiting the exhibition, visitors will see more manufacturers, suppliers, products, services, and special offers, all in one place, from 10-11 October. There will be the chance to meet over 200 exhibitors, and to source the latest information on a very wide range of products and services.” Visitors and delegates attending Healthcare Estates 2017 who work in healthcare for NHS Trusts, in the mental health sector, and for private healthcare providers, can benefit from the exclusive ‘VIP’ package sponsored by Wandsworth Healthcare. The package includes free parking on site, refreshments in a dedicated ‘VIP’ area, meeting facilities, and other benefits. For more details, visit
