University Hospital Llandough Situated in Penarth, University Hospital Llandough (UHL) is a major acute hospital serving Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, and for some services, all of Wales. Inappropriate parking at the busy hospital site was resulting in chronic traffic problems, in particular severe congestion and restricted access. A positive and proactive approach was required to address the concerns of all hospital users and remedy the situation. These issues led to: emergency and delivery vehicles being delayed and unable to park close to key entrances, severe congestion, patients being late for their appointments, inappropriate parking on site, and a local bus service refusing to service the facility due to its vehicles being unable to manoeuvre freely around the site. After a year of detailed planning and a tender process, UHL selected ParkingEye as the operator best equipped to support the new regime. The system went live in October 2013, with ParkingEye implementing its ANPR car park management solution across the site, including within a new multi-decked car park, with ‘staff-only’ and ‘patient-only’ parking areas. The system had an
immediate impact, with UHL experiencing a transformation across the whole estate. Clear roads are facilitating access for emergency vehicles and the delivery of key medical supplies, which is having a positive impact on clinical services. By working in partnership with the UHL, the facility has become a free-flowing environment with: n Emergency vehicles able to park adjacent to key entrances.

‘Fully virtualised’ ANPR solution Our ANPR technology is hosted in a ‘fully- virtualised environment’ across three data centres, ensuring system availability and protection against unforeseen events. This allows us to proactively manage maintenance and upgrades without affecting the performance or availability of the systems. ParkingEye’s ANPR solution is available 24/7, 365 days a year. To ensure that any downtime is minimised, all on-site equipment is proactively monitored, including via a remote diagnostics capability, and any remedial action required is scheduled immediately. Our internal automated network and application monitoring systems constantly check over 2,000 areas of our system,
providing real-time alerting on every aspect of the platform. This is supplemented by external third-party monitoring with failover (a procedure by which a system automatically transfers control to a duplicate system when it detects a fault or failure), and alerting should a major event occur.
