Remembering the attack A tragedy and its aftermath.
An alien transmission, broadcast across the globe, soon led to the activation and destruction of an unimaginably powerful superweapon. No one could have predicted that events would unfold where they did, in the middle of downtown Metropolis. It is a testament to the spirit
of the people of this city that the question of ‘why here?’ didn’t get in the way of decisive action. Immediately, rescue crews and volunteers descended on Metropolis to find survivors and remove the bodies of the fallen. But clearing the rubble was going to take months, and a two-part plan emerged for how a space marked by tragedy could be reappropriated with respect. The epicenter of the shockwave – a healed scar at the heart of the city – would remain undeveloped as a memorial and a reminder. Everything else would be built anew to prove that grief would not paralyze Metropolis.
Heroes Park Beautiful lawns and trees have bloomed anew on the former Centennial Park, the site of 2013’s Kryptonian attack on the city. After the tragedy, the Park was renamed Heroes Park, a place of reverence and contemplation where visitors are encouraged to keep their voices low, so as not to disturb mourners. Fallen heroes and brave survivors are both honored here, and the Superman statue is a central (and controversial) landmark. At the Memorial Booth beneath the Heroes Park Monorail station,

visitors can sign out free audio players and headphones, which provide a narrative accompaniment for self-guided tours that explain the events that took place on the site. The wreck of an otherworldly craft still rests in the park, but is off-limits to the public.
New construction LexCorp led the efforts to rebuild Metropolis to even greater heights than before. Having watched his half-completed LexCorp Tower collapse into ruins during the event, tech entrepreneur Lex Luthor broke ground on a new HQ the very next day. The construction of LexCorp Circle – including the new LexCorp Tower, the Lexor Hotel, and a pedestrian plaza – gave thousands of local people meaningful employment and demonstrated a way forward for those struggling with incomprehensible devastation. The skyline surrounding Heroes Park is now transformed, and LexCorp Tower is the tallest building in Metropolis.
