etropolis is famous for its forward-looking, optimistic
spirit, captured in its nickname ‘City of Tomorrow’. With wide avenues lined with gleaming skyscrapers, and an entrepreneurial spirit that derives from its long-standing tech industry, it has an infectious energy that inspires visitors. While neighboring Gotham City can seem insular, Metropolis welcomes you with open arms. The city, of course, is still
emerging from the devastation of the recent Kryptonian attack, but Metropolis has made great strides thanks to hard work and corporate investment. A notable contributor to the city’s rebuilding isLexCorp (box p45), which is blazing new trails into uncharted fields of science for the betterment of humankind – according to its press releases, at

least. No one can visit Metropolis and not acknowledge the attack, but most locals are happy to talk about the rebuilding, or to point in the direction of Heroes Park (formerly known as Centennial Park) where a grassy expanse covers the scars left by the gravity weapon. A statue of the astonishing champion who emerged on that day also stands in the park. Now dubbed Superman (box p63), this figure has adopted Metropolis as his own when he isn’t rescuing victims from floods or preventing oil tanker explosions all around the world.
