After a decade of neglect, the area is once more open for business, thrilling tourists with its revamped death- defying rides. The twisted antics of mad court jesters find their expression on this stretch. Bohemian artists have embraced the area’s dark carnival reputation to indulge in experimental theater and retro burlesque. The Gotham City Yacht Club isn’t far from here, though non-members will find only a high fence and stern-faced security guards. Gotham’s suburban
communities includeBristol and Somerset, with the latter housing the infamousArkham Asylum (p33) as well as the unspoiled acreage of Slaughter Swamp State Park.

Museum marvels
The city’s museums are second to none. Highlights include theGotham City Museum of Antiquities (p34), which showcases the treasures of antiquity and the splendors of global kings; and the nearby Gotham City Museum of Natural History (p34), which has vast holdings in the sciences of entomology, anthropology, zoology, mineralogy, and paleontology. TheKane Art Museum (p34) is a provocative showcase for multimedia works and oft-neglected icons of popular culture, while theFather Knickenbocker Wax Museum (p33) is a ghoulish but fascinating collection of wax- casted stiffs.
