Getting Around Arriving and leaving

Archie Goodwin International Airport 1-467 555 0156, www.goodwininternational.got. The El Train is the cheapest option, but it’s not always the fastest. Gotham Airlink ($6, www.gotham airlink.got) connects to the Q train at Lafayette Station and the B and C trains at Thornton Station. Shuttle buses (1-467 555 0180, www.gotham transport.got, one way $20, round trip $35, every 30 minutes 5am to 11.30pm daily) make regular stops in Midtown, Old Gotham, the Bowery, and Park Row. Because Turkish Airlines has recently opened up a high-profile new route to Gotham, passengers get 50% off upon presentation of their boarding pass. A Gotham taxi often charges a flat fare of $50 plus bridge tolls and tip.
Empire International Airport 1-465 555 0143, www.empireinternational.got. Bus routes are the most reliable low- cost way to get to and from Empire International. The 2077 and 5660 buses ($5 one way) can be picked up at the transit station between Park Street and 14th Street; the journey takes 45-60 minutes. A private car or taxi costs about $70 plus tolls and tip.

century. The noise, the crowded cars, and the confusing tangle of elevated tracks are stubborn sources of pride for locals who have resisted efforts to modernize the system after the style of Metropolis’ maglev monorails. Stations are usually named for
the street on which they’re located, or the nearest landmark. Trains are identified by colors and numbers, but picking them out and determining whether a given train is running an express or a local route is famously difficult. You can pick up free route maps at many hotels, gift shops, or eateries. Poster-sized maps are on display at every station, but are not guaranteed to be up to date. Stranded bunches of tourists are
common at El Train stations. The El runs 24/7, but many stations lack late-night security. Travel in groups. During extended waits, remain within the range of the station’s overhead lighting and stay far away from shadows and dark corners.
Fares & tickets
You’ll need to buy an ElCard to travel on the El Train network. Cards are available at tourist kiosks, many hotel concierge desks and at automated payment machines in the stations themselves. Base fare for a single ride is $2.75, and one ElCard can be used by up to four people. A HyperElCard allows unlimited rides within two timing windows: a seven-day pass ($30) and a 30-day pass ($110).
