available for quick delivery, and comes in sizes of 2-4.5in (50-115mm) with a 24:1 L/D ratio. The SV250 on display at K2016 featured a die head mounted to it from the newly acquired Milacron product brand, Genca. The machine also incorporates a new Matrix extrusion controller, which includes a touchscreen as standard.


SV machines are made in China, but sold worldwide, says Brian Marston, president of Milacron’s extrusion division. “It is made in China to US standards,” he said.


“We’re currently working on a CE mark for Europe.” Later this year, Milacron intends to add a second model – the 150 – and then further models, including a 175, in early 2017. Milacron is also expanding its range of counter-


rotating, twin screw machines, which are made in India. The company currently offers four mid-range models – two in conical, and two in parallel – and next year will launch two more in each format. “The new machines will be larger, but we’ve yet to decide the exact details,” said Marston. These machines, which are for the Indian market, are like to be used for PVC, CPVC and PE pipe.


Alcohol resistant tube Evonik has developed a new polyamide that can be used in the fuel lines of the latest hybrid engines – because it resists attack by alcohol. The latest biofuels contain high levels of alcohol,


which can dissolve extractables from traditional polyamide-based fuel lines. This, when combined with the narrower injection nozzles in these engines, can cause fuel lines to clog up. Evonik’s new material, a compound based on its


Vestamid polyamide 612, has low extractables and so remains largely unaffected by the new fuels. The company has developed a new multi-layer tubing system, called MLT 4800, which uses this new material as the inner layer. It is an extension of the company’s existing MLT 4300, which has a PA6 inner layer – but is less resistant to alcohol. “We already offer a low-extractable system, called


MLT 7440, but it’s based on fluoropolymers and is more expensive,” said Michael Böer, director of tubing

systems at Evonik. As well as needing a new


inner layer, the MLT 4800 needed a new adhesive layer – which


Evonik also developed. This is also based on polyamide, he says. The company is currently in the market introduction phase with the new system, and is “very close to its first sale”, Böer added. MLT 4800 is aimed mainly at German car producers, and its inner layer is non-conduc- tive. This makes it unsuitable for the US market, which


insists on a conductive inner layer. “Our first step with MLT 4800 was to develop a


non-conductive system for Europe,” said Böer. “Our next step is to develop a conductive version for the US market – and this should take a few months.”


High-end NBR Arlanxeo has launched a new nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) grade to meet the needs of high-end customers. Krynac XL 3375 VP is a new pre-crosslinked NBR, developed to deliver high quality products with no compromise on production efficiency. It is particularly suited for extruded and calendered parts requiring good dimensional stability, such as hoses inner parts, rubber linings, semi-finished products and belts. Other key processing benefits include good calen- dering behaviour, low shrinkage, smooth compound surface and higher compound green strength. Moreo- ver, it delivers reduced nerviness on the mill. The pre-crosslinked structure of the material allows


high performance in terms of dynamical properties such as elongation at break and tensile strength as well as for static performance with extremely low compression set values. It can be used either pure for best extrusion
