news Mexichem expands with acquisition
Mexichem has acquired Canadian polyethylene pipe manufacturer Gravenhurst Plastics Ltd (GPL) – and will incorporate it into its Dura- Line business. GPL is a privately owned
business with production facilities in Gravenhurst (outside Toronto) and Temiskaming, Ontario. It was established in 1968, and supplies HDPE conduit and innerduct for fibre optics as well as building supply products to the Canadian market. In 2015 it generated $15m in revenues. Mexichem will consolidate GPL under its Fluent Business Group and will upgrade GPL’s facilities. Its Dura-Line brand is already a leading HDPE conduit, duct and pressure- pipe brand for telecom, data communications and infra- structure industries. “Gravenhurst’s telecommu-
nication products complement Mexichem’s Fluent offerings,” said Paresh Chari, president of
Fluent Business Group. “Gravenhurst’s relationships in the Canadian market will enable us to expand Fluent’s international footprint, leveraging Dura-Line branded products while preserving Gravenhurst’s local presence.” The addition of GPL will
establish a presence for Fluent in Canada and provide a platform to expand all of Mexichem’s businesses in that country, it said. “We are pleased to partner
with Gravenhurst in the evolution of the Canadian data- com business,” said Emma- nuelle Dubu, president of Fluent in the USA and Canada. “Gravenhurst’s deep roots and innate understanding of the dynamics of the Canadian market will be invaluable to our shared success.” l Mexichem has also acquired Vinyl Compounds Holdings Ltd (VCHL), a UK-based technical PVC compounds manufacturer that supplies industries
including building and construction, and pipe and profile production. It has annual revenues of approxi- mately US$40m. Mexichem says the addition
of VCHL will expand its ability to meet global PVC compound demand and enable further vertical integration – through VCHL’s stabiliser technologies and recycled PVC capabilities. VCHL’s key raw materials are PVC resin and plasticisers, which Mexichem says will bring extra synergies to its vinyl operations.
“This transaction is aligned
with our strategy of complet- ing bolt-on acquisitions that provide us with access to new geographies and end markets, and expand our portfolio of speciality products,” said Sameer Bharadwaj, president of the compounds business unit. “VCHL is a company with a strong management team that has achieved consistent sales growth and has devel- oped a loyal and impressive customer base.” ❙
