PE100+ develops online assistant to aid trenchless pipe installation
The PE100+ Association has devel- oped an online guide to help civil engineers identify the most suitable trenchless methods for installing PE100 HDPE pressure pipe. The ‘No-Dig Technical Guide’
covers new installation and rehabili- tation of existing water and gas pipelines using trenchless methods. Extrusion line heads to India
Jain Irrigation Systems of India has added a 2,500mm Battenfeld-Cincinnati polyolefin pipe extrusion line.
The line is based on a SolEx NG extruder barrel with internal grooves in combination with a match- ing screw and grooved bush- ing geometry that optimises the extruder’s processing attributes.
This helps lower melt

It then calculates the diameter and SDR (Standard Dimen- sional Ratio, the ratio of outside diameter to wall thickness) of PE100 pipe necessary. It also identifies feasible methods for installation of the pipe.
“This guide will help users decide whether or not trenchless techniques can be used to install PE100 on a specific project, which techniques are the most effective, and what key points need to be considered in using them,” said Hans Pierik, president of the PE100+ Association, and global marketing manager of Sabic. Twin-strand co-extrusion system boosts window profile output
Schüco Polymer Technologies of Germany is to commission a twin-strand co-extrusion system from KraussMaffei Berstorff, for window profile production. In the project, a KMD 114-32/P twin-screw extruder – which has been running for more than 10 years at Schüco’s Weißenfels plant, has been integrated into a new coex combination, which is also equipped with two KMD 63 K/P conical machines. “With our concept of
twin-strand coextrusion, we have met a special require- ment from Schüco,” said Marc
Stramm, sales representative for Germany at KraussMaffei Berstorff.
The machine, which has been in operation as a single extruder for more than 10 years, has now been integrated into a high efficiency, twin- strand extrusion machine that produces co-extruded window profiles with an output of 700-800kg/h. The main extruder prepares
the material with a higher proportion of recycled or filler content for the inner layer. The line also incorporates
KraussMaffei Berstorff’s C6 control system, which the
company says guarantees reliable production. The two co-extruders
(which are executed as a piggyback model) deliver the outer layer in the twin strand at up to 200kg/h per strand. Joachim Papenheim, supply chain manager at Schüco Polymer Technologies, said: “These machines are highly compact and robust and we are confident that the revised configuration will continue to manufacture in such a reliable, hassle-free fashion – and at much higher-performance.” ❙
