To facilitate the use of reliable CFD in the design and engineering process, MARIN has invested in a new, large computer cluster, and is sharing its CFD code ReFRESCO with its customers.
future as CFD takes on more prominent role

FD plays an increasingly important role in the optimisation of maritime structures and the investigation of
complex flow phenomena. MARIN has always supported this role for CFD with dedicated tool development (PARNASSOS and ReFRES- CO), extensive validation and application.
ReFRESCO-Operation With the Re- FRESCO-Operation initiative, MARIN wants to share its CFD code and knowledge with the industry. When joining the cooperation, customers don’t just buy a licence for a soft- ware package; they enter into a partnership
with MARIN on the application of CFD for hydrodynamic problems. They are trained by MARIN staff on the use of the software for their targeted application and they have access to MARIN’s best practice guidelines. Customers will benefit directly from further developments at MARIN, both in the code and in the guidelines. Furthermore, they will obtain access to MARIN’s computer facilities, to enable them to perform large computations, which would otherwise not be feasible.
ReFRESCO does not replace generic, com- mercial CFD codes, which clearly have their merits and can be used for a wider range of applications. However, ReFRESCO gives the possibility to apply CFD reliably for specific maritime applications in direct, open inter- action with the developers and other users (at MARIN and at other companies).
