27 Speakers at the HLP meeting.

feasibility study is currently being conducted, based on which the future strategy will be decided. This compa- ny, which has featured extensively in previous editions of Mushroom Business, is seen as a shining example of sustainable entrepreneurship in horticulture. Finally, Somosné Nagy Adrienn presented the biogas project at Pilze Nagy. This Hungarian company produ- ces 12,000 tons of organic oyster mushroom substrate annually, which results in a gigantic pile of organic waste after cultivation. With very generous help from the EU, a biogas installation was built which converts the company’s own organic waste, plus that of neigh- bouring farms, into green energy. This installation is fed by 3200 tons of spent oyster mushroom substrate and 4000 tons of waste flows from other agricultural enterprises each year. In exchange they generate 1.3 million m3 biogas, 2580 mW electrical power and 2660 mW thermal supply. Music to the ears of green energy lovers, and a nice visiting card for the company itself. However, a cost/profit analysis shows that a biogas installation is not a good investment, unless very large scale use is possible. Due to the long journey home, many of the participants had booked an extra night’s stay, which presented an ideal occasion to mull over everything we had seen, in the authentic surroundings of an Austrian ‘Weinkeller’. The perfect end to a successful meeting.. ◗

This company runs projects for private and official organisations relating to the issue of renewable energy. He explained the various ins and outs of biogas installations: applicable regulations, and financial and technical aspects. Arjan Heeren then presented the environmental pro- jects on Dutch mushroom farm ’t Voske. The company aims to be energy and climate neutral by 2020. A
