BANANA CAUTION SIGNS ARE 22 TIMES AS EFFECTIVE, NEW

STUDY SHOWS A new study, conducted by Patricia G. Jortberg Ph.D, has found that the standard A-board type of caution sign only catches the attention of 2% of people. In contrast, Banana Products UK’s Banana Cone was 22 times more effective.

This difference is sure to make health and safety managers want to look

very carefully at using the Banana Cones to improve their slips, trips and falls record.

The study illustrates that previous research shows that novelty (including shape and colour) gains more attention, and pre-existing knowledge aids in the delivery of the message. Pre-existing knowledge of the banana peel slip is the root cause for Banana Cones to significantly outperform all other products in tests for safety perception.

SAFETY WITH KEELINE Kee Safety, a fall protection specialist, has redesigned its KeeLine® Horizontal Lifeline system to allow easier installation on bitumen membrane roofs and provide an enhanced weathering solution.

KeeLine® is a wire-based horizontal lifeline system that has been designed to provide continuous fall protection. for up to three users across the whole roof, allowing them to freely move around the surface.

A report, by Technavio, highlighted that the global roofing market is increasing rapidly, with an estimated growth of 30% over the next four years. The global roofing market was valued at $79.26billion in 2015 and is expected to reach $111billion by 2020. The largest growth is forecast to be within the bitumen roofing segment. John Ingram, Global Product Manager at Fall Protection, says that Kee Safety has redesigned the KeeLine® system to take advantage of this growing sector.

KeeLine® incorporates a redesigned post and base plate for use on bitumen membrane roofs, as well as being

suitable for metal profile, standing seam and composite panel roofs. The system comprises enhanced safety features including new toggle fixings, a slimline corner design, stronger rivets, improved swage and reduced height intermediate uprights. KeeLine® allows for spans of 12m between posts and the brackets permit the traveller to glide easily along the system ensuring the user does not need to detach at any time.

KeeLine® is fully compliant with the requirements of EN 795 2012, CEN TS 16415:2013, ANSI Z359 and CSA Z259, and has undergone extensive testing in different roof types, with full third party approval.
