often need to keep disturbance to visitors, residents, or customers to a minimum. For example, when a floor needs to be raised by tens of millimetres, contractors may use a sand or cement screed to build up floor levels. This can take several days, or even several weeks, to dry out sufficiently for new floorcoverings to be installed. This will cause significant inconvenience for refurbishments of heavily used areas.



Levelling compounds have been purposefully designed to rapidly build-up floor levels, allowing contractors to finish jobs that previously would have taken days, in just a few hours. The best compounds will be applicable in thicknesses up to 50mm in a single application, and will be ready to receive new floorcoverings in as little as six hours. The most professional compounds will be self-levelling, and will leave a smooth, durable surface, ready for the application of floorcoverings directly.

Being able to apply floorcoverings after six hours, compared with

several weeks is an enormous saving of time. When you take into account the fact that these specialist levelling compounds can be walk- on hard in 90 minutes, meaning the area can be worked on while the floor dries, the time savings on the entire job are phenomenal.

If a perfectly smooth surface is required, when installing resilient floorcoverings for instance, then a further levelling compound will be needed to ‘cap’ the deep base compound. For applications of 10mm and under, there are levelling compounds that have been specially designed to provide a perfectly smooth, level subfloor, ready to receive floorcoverings, in as little as 45 minutes. Walk-on times for the highest performing compounds of this sort can be just 30 minutes. A perfect floor finish can therefore be achieved in under an hour, which in turn means less time spent on-site, and less disruption to the facility in question.
