INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE
Clos-O-Mat, supplier of toilet aids for disabled and elderly people, explains why investing in business, staff and residents is key to company growth.
Care home owners could increase their profitability and improve conditions for both residents and staff, by ensuring compliance with industry guidelines and government recommendations. All they need to do is change their toilet facilities.
Clos-o-Mat - the UK’s biggest supplier of toilet aids for disabled and elderly people – has published research showing there is growing demand for specialist WC facilities in care homes.
Additionally, the Delivering Dignity report states: “Looking after older people is not simply a matter of common sense and sympathy. Even addressing something as common as incontinence is not just about visits to the toilet, but also about understanding the reasons, making a care plan and managing the condition.”
Practical experience has shown that potentially, in an average 30 bed home, installation of toilet aids helps provide residents with greater control, independence, dignity and consistency of cleanliness. These types of facilities can also deliver staff cost savings of approximately £150,000 annually.
Clos-o-Mat are conscious that care home management staff are busy, and cannot be expected to be well- versed in all equipment options available. In light of this Clos-O- Mat has introduced an innovative ‘Complete Bathroom Collection’ package, whereby the company will work with the establishment to design, supply and install appropriate equipment to make the bathrooms or washrooms as inclusive/ accessible as possible; restoring control, independence and dignity as far as practical to the resident and relieving staff from toilet duties.

The package is specifically tailored to individual requirements from user issues to budget constraints, and encompasses options such as the inclusion of grab rails to a fully-equipped facility with height adjustable changing tables, hand basins, baths, hoists, lifters and automatic bidet toilets.
Robin Tuffley, Clos-o-Mat marketing manager explains: “No two people, even if they share an affliction, are the same. On average we go to the loo eight times a day, so client personal care and hygiene can represent a major portion of a care worker’s daily time. In today’s working environment where time is precious, it simplifies the whole process if one point of contact can help design, then supply and commission all the equipment, ensuring every element functions effectively to create the optimum combined end result.”
The Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita bidet toilet combines a conventional-looking WC with douching and drying facilities. Operated by simple hand or body pressure of the flush, it ensures the user is effectively, yet gently, cleansed without the need for toilet paper or the carer.
Pressure on the flush pad triggers simultaneous flushing and douching to optimise hygiene, followed by a warm air drying cycle. Clos-o-Mat has developed a range of accessories to facilitate use by the elderly and less able, including arm and body supports, a ‘remote control’ flush pad, and douche options.
It can be installed in place of a conventional toilet, either in individual rooms or ‘communal’ washrooms, requiring only an
additional electrical service. For multi-user environments, the Clos-o- Mat Lima Lift includes all the benefits of the Palma Vita with the added feature of height adjustability.
Alternatively the Aerolet range of lifters encompasses 11 main units, with three control options and a further six accessories. The units replicate the natural motion of standing up and sitting down, gently raising and lowering the user to position them accurately over the toilet as required whilst enabling their feet to remain in contact with the floor and maintaining the centre of gravity above the feet for balance. After toileting, the lift can be raised by degrees to ease access for cleansing. Variations include the Standard (ST) which will fit most bathrooms and higher or hanging toilet bowls, the Small (SM) for smaller bathrooms, and the Mobile (MO) which can be moved from one bathroom or WC to another making it ideal for nursing and care homes.
Clos-o-Mat has its own dedicated, in-house team of service engineers, providing nationwide call-out for servicing and maintenance.
