Q1 Q2

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

I was a Management Trainee at Littlewoods Chain Stores.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?

I applied to an advertisement from a management recruitment agency, with whom I had previously worked. Mistakenly I thought the position would be in retail. It turned out to be with Pritchard Services Group and I joined them in 1975 as Regional Manager in the West Midlands and have never looked back.

WHICH THREE WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR

PERSONALITY? Positive; patient; and hard working.

IF YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE IN THE WORLD,

WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY? We went on safari last year to South Africa, for the first time, and I would like to go back.

HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE

CLEANING INDUSTRY? Over the time I have been in the cleaning industry, the professionalism in marketing and delivery of service has increased radically. By and large, the industry has succeeded in creating awareness of this to our clients. However, the industry remains largely anonymous to the wider public. Somehow we need to enhance public awareness so that our industry is recognised as being both significant and progressive.

Q6 Q7

IF AN INTERN WERE TO START TOMORROW,

WHAT’S THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE THEM? This is a people industry. Concentrate on positive communication with people, whether employees or customers.

IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY TOMORROW, HOW WOULD

YOU SPEND YOUR FORTUNE? After looking after the family, things would not change dramatically, with the exception that I would be doing everything first class, for the rest of my life.

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY AND INVITE

ANY THREE PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? Elvis Presley - as a teenager in the 50s or early 60s, Elvis was my musical hero. Marilyn Monroe - simply the pin-up girl of this same era. Pope

Q9

WHAT, DO YOU THINK, IS THE FUTURE OF THE

CLEANING INDUSTRY? The demand for our services can only increase. Provided we are prepared to invest in people and infrastructure and adapt to changing circumstances the future for the cleaning industry is bright.

Nick Whitely, Managing Director at Auto:Time, asks:

WHAT ARE THE THREE MAIN THINGS THAT NEGATIVELY

IMPACT YOUR PRODUCTIVITY? Negativity in others; time management; lack of sleep.
