A FRIENDLY WELCOME

Polysafe safety flooring from UK vinyl flooring manufacturer Polyflor was recently installed throughout Ward 29 at Manor Hospital in Walsall, West Midlands. The £2.5million facility was designed specifically to cater for patients with dementia.

Stockport-based construction and engineering company MTX Contracts Ltd were asked to design, manufacture and construct Ward 29. The 1491m² modular construction is made up of 31 modules that were built and fitted out off-site before being lifted into position at the hospital by a 350 tonne crane. The new 30-bed facility features a reception area, consulting rooms, patient sitting room, six private bedrooms and six four-bed wards with en-suite bathrooms. Polyflor flooring was installed throughout by John Abbott Flooring of Oldham.

Polysafe Wood fx PUR, Hydro and Vogue Ultra PUR safety flooring was used in all areas of the ward to help keep patients, staff and visitors safe and reduce the risk of slips and falls. All Polysafe flooring ranges feature safety particles for increased traction underfoot, providing sustainable wet slip resistance throughout the guaranteed lifetime of the product.

Steven Hartley, Associate Director at MTX Contracts Ltd commented: “Polyflor’s safety flooring is the ideal combination of high design and high performance. This has allowed us to create a safe healthcare facility for Manor Hospital that is less clinical and more welcoming, creating a more positive environment for patients and staff alike.”

The interior of Ward 29 was designed with the needs of patients living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia in mind, with patient areas colour coordinated to aid orientation. As a UK manufacturer of flooring that is suitable for dementia care facilities, Polyflor
