As we head into what is supposed to be our summer time (although you wouldn’t really think so to look outside!) we come to one of my favourite times of the year – festival season!

Kicking off in June and spanning through to the end of August, hundreds of thousands of us swap our home comforts for camping, warm tins of beer and the dreaded ‘festival toilet’ as we make our way to one of the hundreds of music festivals taking place up and down the country. But what goes into cleaning them?

You may remember last year that I spoke to two volunteer litter pickers who trawl festival sites each year picking up rubbish that campers leave behind, but this year we wanted to look at another side of festival cleaning, the toilets.

4 | Tomorrow’s Cleaning August 2016

Notorious among those that go, feared by those that don’t, the toilets are always a talking point at every festival, so with that in mind, I managed to track down Jane Healy, Sanitation Manager at Glastonbury Festival, for a really insightful chat about what goes into cleaning festival toilets, how best to maintain them, and the emergence of new ‘compost loos’. You can read all about it in this month’s ‘Editor’s Pick’, in the Event Clean-Ups section.

Elsewhere in our brand new Industrial Cleaning section, as Stoke City prepare for the new Premier League season, we ask Cleanex Contract Service Limited ‘can you do it on a cold, rainy night in Stoke?’ as they took on an industrial clean up of the Potters’ Bet365 Stadium.

Don’t forget to check out the rest of this month’s issue for some great features from the likes of Nilfisk, SCA, Kärcher and many more.

I hope you enjoy the issue – thanks very much, and happy reading! EDITOR’S VOICE
