BBC BRING THE TV CAMERAS TO MANCHESTER

CLEANING SHOW The Manchester Cleaning Show gained some extra publicity before the doors opened, thanks to a special visit from the BBC Breakfast crew.

Many of those going to the show were surprised to see Steph McGovern, Business Correspondent for the BBC Breakfast show, reporting live from Event City as the final preparations took place on Wednesday morning.

During a series of spots for the live show on BBC1, Steph rode around on several different scrubber dryers, presented some facts about the cleaning industry and conducted interviews with several exhibitors, including Simon Hollingbery, chairman of co-organisers, the British Cleaning Council.

The appearance of the TV cameras certainly caused a stir across the show floor, and was the hot topic of conversation throughout the day, with visitors and exhibitors alike excited by the extra publicity.

And Simon Hollingbery was delighted with the additional exposure for the show. Speaking at the show, he said: “It’s absolutely brilliant for the show. When you consider that this only saw the light of day in June last year, it’s not a bad showing.

“I know that Steve Diprose [Managing Director of co-organisers Quartz Business Media] is delighted because when you look at the footfall and the people that are about now, it’s brilliant.”

Indeed, by all accounts, the Cleaning Show’s first sojourn up to Manchester has proven to be a huge success, outdoing all expectations thanks to the high turnout of visitors.

Simon added: “After the London show last year. the Quartz guys actually analysed the people that registered but don’t appear, and 70-80% were

the legislation will affect the wider cleaning industry.

Mark Hanson, CEO and Publisher of Tomorrow’s Cleaning, said: “We are thrilled to be helping to promote this event. The REACH Regulation will have a significant impact on the cleaning industry, and we’re very keen to help spread the word about how best to respond to these changes.”

While Stephen Harrison, Chairman of the CHSA and Managing Director for Harrison Wipes, added: “The aim

people from this area, so we’re just bringing the show to the people.

“Yes we were very busy this [Wednesday] morning, but I don’t see any reason why it won’t carry on.”

And Simon revealed that plans for an extended show in 2018 are already in place. He said: “2018 is already pencilled in the book. Obviously we want to have a think about it, but we’ve reached the target that we’ve set ourselves, and beyond, and I can’t see any reason why it won’t come back.”

The BBC cameras returned to Event City later in the day to see Terry ‘Turbo’ Burrows moderate a window cleaning competition, while exhibitors TL Killi’s featured in BBC Radio 5 Live’s ‘Wake Up to Money’ show, showcasing their i-mop floor cleaner.

of this conference is to cut through the confusion and give distributors and contract cleaners the practical information that they will need to adapt to the REACH Regulation.

“We believe that working alongside Tomorrow’s Cleaning will provide an excellent platform going forward to help inform not only our members but the industry as a whole.”

The conference will take place on Tuesday 21 June at the Lea Marston Hotel in the West Midlands. Those who want to attend the event can email the BACS Secretariat at enquiries@bacsnet.org.
