CUTLERY
18/10 or 18/0 Stainless Steel These numbers refer to the type of stainless steel used in the product and as an alloy the properties of stainless steel can be manipulated, allowing it to be better suited to its desired function.
The first number, “18”, refers to the chrome content as a percentage by weight; Chromium is the component of stainless steel that gives it its stainless property. The addition of which allows the metal to take on a soft shine that can be polished, while adding some resistance to oxidation or rusting.
The second number, “0” or “10”, specifies the Nickel content in the alloy. “0” indicates the steel has zero added Nickel, and the cutlery will retain its magnetic qualities, making it ideal if you intend to use with magnetic cutlery saving systems, which are often used in high volume restaurants. The addition of Nickel increases the corrosion resistance of the cutlery, preventing pit marks and rusting.
GLASSWARE
Red Wine Glasses A red wine glass bowl is fuller and rounder with a larger opening to increase the rate of oxidation
White Wine Glasses
A white wine glass bowl will be more 'U'-shaped and upright, so the aromas can be released yet the cooler temperature of the wine will be retained. To preserve a crisp, clean flavour, many white wine glasses will have a smaller mouth to reduce surface area and, in turn, the rate of oxidization.
Champagne Flutes
A Champagne flute has a small mouth to keep the wine sparkling longer. Heat from the hand is also kept away from the sparkling wine by providing a stem for a handle.
Wine Tumblers
Stemless wine glasses, are a contemporary take on the wine glass, and can be a stylish and fun alternative to traditional stemware and offer the benefit of reduced stem breakages.
