Managing a global reinsurance broker at a time of unprecedented change could  an intellectual and practical challenge as he attempts to meld his company’s traditional skillsets with a new array of tools, as he tells Intelligent Insurer.


G


etting Eric Andersen on the phone can be a logistical challenge in    to what ended up being a phone interview, he had visited London,


Paris, Munich and Australia before heading back to the US—giving his PR team symptoms akin to jetlag as they grappled with a shifting diary, multiple time zones and demanding journalists.


Andersen’s globetrotting gives him great insight on the changing dynamics   the global risk transfer world shift, so must the mentality of the large reinsurance brokers. Their sources of income must diversify and they must adjust to the way clients want to do business and interact with them.

He explains that the re/insurance market has gradually split into two segments


in recent years: large, global insurers tend to deal directly with the brokers’ large   


That trend has accelerated in the past three years, Andersen says. But some of those regional hubs, such as Singapore or Miami, have also started expanding into the local markets, picking up business that way.


 
