It’s more money in your pocket

IF YOU’RE worried about fuel bills we can help.

The Dunedin Canmore home energy advice team (HEAT) have helped save our customers thousands of pounds over the last year. James Cordiner, 61, from Granton was one of those customers. He got help from the HEAT after a mix up with his energy bills.

He said: “I got a letter from the energy company saying I owed them more than £300 but I was paying my bill every month. I’ve been here six years and never missed a payment. Nadia from the energy advice team helped me sort it out and I didn’t have to pay it.

“She also arranged someone to come to my flat and check it over. It was really draughty and they fixed that. I don’t feel the draught at all now, I’m really pleased, I’d recommend the service to anyone.” To make an appointment with one of energy advisors speak to your housing officer.

Janet loves her new boiler

A TENANT who had a new combi-boiler fitted as part of our improvement programme says it has left her less tired and more comfortable in her home. Janet Malloy, 77, from Niddrie said: “My old boiler had me shattered as it kept turning itself off and I had to go upstairs all the time to switch it back on again.

“The new boiler is really good and everything was perfect with the installation. They did the job quick and well. One of the radiators in my hall needed fixing and they did that job too. “I’m really happy with it.” To find out what

SWITCHED ON: Energy advisor Brian shows Nada how to use her new heating system

Stay warm and save money with new heating sytems

DUNEDIN Canmore customers are benefiting from brand new central heating systems and new boilers thanks to our investment in our homes.

Nada Shawa, 44, from Leith, who uses a wheelchair, recently had her old storage heaters replaced with a new gas central heating system. She said: “The storage heaters were hard to operate. They were so old that by 5-6pm they would cool down and that is the time when you really need the heat.

“With gas central heating you can put on the timer or turn it on or off whenever you want. It’s so crucial for my circulation. Physically, I operate a lot better with heat. It has made a huge difference. The combi-boiler is brilliant – to have instant hot water now is great.

“I hope I will save money as well only

using the heating when I need it.” Brian Trodyn from the home energy advice team visited her at home to show her how to use the heating system and to advise her on using her heating efficiently. Housing Director Alan Glasgow said: “We will be installing hundreds of new heating systems over the next four years in a bid to make sure our customers stay cosy and warm without spending a fortune on energy bills.”

The new heating systems are just some of the improvements that customers can look forward to over the next year. Smart switch could save you money

WE’RE working with SMART Energy GB to install smart meters in all of our homes. A smart meter is a new kind of gas and electricity meter that can digitally send meter readings to your energy supplier. This can ensure more accurate energy bills. Smart meters also come with monitors, so you can better understand your energy usage. Every home in Britain will have a smart meter installed by 2020. And you can get them installed for free.

They’re part of the UK Government’s plan to reduce carbon emissions. Smart meters will make it easier for homes around the country to save energy. There’s no obligation to switch but if you would like a smart meter installed please contact our energy advice team for more unbiased advice. You can find out more at
