GOLF ALONG THE OCEAN WITH LOTS OF OTHER OPTIONS MAKE FOR A GREAT SUMMER VACATION IN MONTEREY

ost people are not aware that there are two “Disneylands” in California. But if you play golf, this is
a good thing to know. The Monterey Peninsula is the “other
Magic Kingdom,” with golf that comes in many forms and flavors. You want a big ride near water? Pebble Beach Golf Links or Spyglass Hill will rival anything on Splash Mountain or Pirates of the Caribbean. You want something a little more demanding? The Bayonet or Black Horse courses can be your Space Mountain or Star Wars. You want to go

a little more right down the middle of the fairway, Quail Lodge Golf Course or Pacific Grove Golf Links can be Peter Pan’s Flight or even Mad Tea Cups. But like Disneyland, golf on the
Monterey Peninsula is expensive, and sometimes you have to stand in long lines for tee times, which is especially true at Pebble Beach and Spyglass. Then again, there are so many outstanding offerings on the Peninsula, you really can wander around and discover some type of amusement at any time. Those include non-golf alternatives like Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey
