person who, “By his or her actions and accomplishments exemplify the spirit of the game.” “It was a shock,” said Souza,

hen he was playing on the Grand Canyon University golf team, John Souza had the

awards. I don’t expect recognition for anything I’ve done, and it just really caught me off guard. “Dr. Ed is an icon and not


just here in Arizona. He’s a true gentleman, and I was fortunate to be able to play golf with him many years ago, which was an absolute pleasure. So this is very humbling.” Souza, 53, started with PING


by working on a test range where Cave Creek Golf Course later was built. These days he is head of the company’s WRX (Works) Division. In between, he has served in a wide variety of roles, including marketer, engineer, designer, distributor and chief international officer. He also ran the gamut at Moon Valley Country Club, from bag room attendant to club manager.
