Boyes Turner, the Reading- based law firm, has further strengthened its focus on the technology and innovation sector with the promotion to partner at the firm of Kate Eavis, a corporate lawyer with extensive experience in the technology and life sciences sectors. The firm continues to thrive in other sectors, and Eavis is joined in election to the partnership by Laxmi Patel, who established a special educational needs team at Boyes Turner from a standing start. Their appointments coincide with five promotions to senior associate level in the firm’s corporate, insolvency, industrial disease, employment and property teams: Chris Dobson, senior associate, corporate; Oliver Fitzpatrick, senior associate, insolvency and restructuring; Annabelle Nielson, senior associate, industrial diseases; Darren Smith, senior associate, employment; Sarah Webb, senior associate, property group.

Clifton Ingram LLP, the Thames Valley law firm with offices in Wokingham and Reading, has announced the appointment of Rachel Scawin as a solicitor in its tax planning, wills and probate department. She will be based in Clifton Ingram’s Wokingham office and specialises in the preparation of wills, lasting powers of attorney, inheritance tax planning and trust and estate administration. Scawin trained at a national law firm and joins Clifton Ingram from a leading regional practice. She is an affiliate member of the Society of Trusts & Estates Practitioners.
Specialist IT, data privacy and cybersecurity law firm Clayden Law, has appointed solicitor Hannah Kirby, to join its team based in Oxford. Kirby brings a wealth of experience in data protection law, cloud computing, research and education-related IP, having most recently worked as an in-house IP and commercial solicitor at the University of Oxford. In this new role, she will deal with a range of business clients, advising on all areas of information technology, data privacy and cybersecurity law. Kirby officially joined Clayden Law on May 1.
Local award-winning law firm, Gardner Leader, has appointed dual-qualified corporate solicitor, Ami Bhatt as associate to join its ever-expanding commercial team. As a dual-qualified solicitor with six years in corporate law, Bhatt can practice in India and the UK. She is also a licenced chartered accountant and has been an in-house lawyer for a UK-based investment bank in India, responsible for capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Gardner Leader, she was a corporate solicitor at Blake Morgan and Clifton Ingram. Bhatt, who lives in Reading, is based at Gardner Leader’s Newbury office but also works alongside the commercial team in Maidenhead. The firm also has an office in Thatcham.
B P Collins in Gerrards Cross ended a successful year by promoting seven of its lawyers on May 1. Maria Mowberry and Martina Razaq become partners in the property practice; Claire Filer and Fran Hipperson become partners in the family team. Partner Gary Kiely joins the firm as the head of the wills, trusts and probate team in which Sharon Heselton and Dominic Ibbs become senior associate and associate respectively. These latest round of promotions come after B P Collins announced in March that Simon Deans – who has been with the firm for 20 years and is currently practice group leader of the corporate and commercial team – will be promoted to senior partner. Alex Zachary will become its practice group leader.
Timico, the managed cloud service provider (MCSP), with offices in Winnersh, near Reading, has announced the appointment of managed IT specialist Neville Davis to a new position as non- executive chairman. An entrepreneurial business leader with over 20 years’ experience as a chief executive, including 12 years at a quoted company, Davis has a particularly strong track record in scaling and developing private-equity backed companies, having chaired and grown other tech businesses to in excess of £300 million turnover and 1500 employees. As well as his new appointment at Timico, Davis also currently chairs private equity- backed IT companies, Peppermint Technology and Clifford Thames, as well as travel management company Key Travel, and is also non-executive director of Kalibrate. His previous chairmanships also include SecureData, Fourth, Trustmarque (now part of Capita), Ascribe and Amor.
