Following the arrival of solicitor Danielle Taylor to Paris Smith’s busy Winchester office, the Southampton office has been joined by solicitor Georgina Hancock. This now makes the Paris Smith family team one of the largest, if not the largest, outside London. Hancock, a Winchester resident, completed her law degree at the University of Surrey after which she was the VP welfare at the student’s union.


Property consultants CBRE has appointed two new recruits at its Southampton office in the building consultancy and professional services divisions. Derek Johnson (right) has joined as a senior surveyor in the building consultancy team from MACE Cost Consultancy where he recently had been on secondment to Hampshire County Council’s property services department. Prior to this Johnson spent four years at Baily Garner, gaining his RICS membership and completing his Assessment of Professional Competence. Senior surveyor Tom Lawrence (left) has joined the landlord and tenant team as a specialist rating surveyor. Prior to joining CBRE, Lawrence spent seven years at GL Hearn part of Capita’s real estate division where he focused on building his rating expertise. He qualified as a member of RICS in 2015.


Managing agent SDL Bigwood is continuing to expand its team in the South East, with the appointment of a new regional operations manager. Gareth Brown has more than 30 years’ experience in residential property management and will oversee an eight-strong team from SDL Bigwood’s Southampton office. In his new role, Brown will lead and support the team, coordinating the day- to-day management of the office.


Salisbury-based law firm Trethowans has expanded its private client team with the appointment of solicitor Derek Bryer. He will be based in the firm’s London Road office and help Trethowans’ clients with everything from inheritance tax planning, wills and probate to matters involving lasting powers of attorney and court of protection.


Local law firm Moore Blatch, which also has offices in Lymington, the City of London and Richmond, has appointed Chris Marsden as a partner specialising in dispute resolution and real estate disputes. Marsden moves from Southampton and Bournemouth-based solicitors Lester Aldridge where he previously acted for a broad range of clients including developers, property institutions, financial institutions, hoteliers and insolvency practitioners. Prior to Lester Aldridge, Marsden spent five years at City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner. He has substantial experience advising on high-value and complex disputes involving release renewals, claims relating to breach of contract and real estate related insolvency issues.


Blake Morgan has welcomed Dan Geddes back to the firm as a senior associate in its dispute resolution team. Geddes has returned to Blake Morgan’s Southampton office in a new role as a specialist in commercial litigation. He was previously in Blake Morgan’s insolvency team for nine years before leaving in 2016. Geddes brings with him a wealth of contacts, and expertise in contract and commercial disputes across the private and public sectors.

New Forest commoner, Kerry Dovey who runs a herd of ponies and is also a highly experienced property lawyer has been recruited by local law firm Moore Blatch. Based in Moore Blatch’s Lymington office, Dovey moves from local lawyers Blake Morgan and specialises in property law. She has extensive experience in farms and estates as well as some of the more specific property requirements of residents of the New Forest and surrounding area.
