His commitment and passion for


these dogs is quite amazing. Every day, the dogs are fed, the kennels are cleaned and the dogs undergo their training regime. Can you imagine the amount of food that has to be bought to feed these canines? Being a trainer for these beautiful Vizsla dogs comes with its own rewards. John has won many North American Championships, both in AKC and American Field events, and is the only Canadian to ever win an American National Championship for pointing dogs. In fact, he has done it 5 times and has 7 runner ups. He has eight national championships and numerous national championship placements as well as the NSTRA (National Shoot to Retrieve Association) championships. More importantly, John has been responsible for raising and training these great dogs and sending thousands of them to good homes all over the world. Needless to say, John Reid is at the top of his game. When John asked me and my


pal Lynn to come to his Onpoint Plantation and take a few dogs out for a pheasant shoot - we were both in, no questions asked. We left Almonte, and after


a stop for a quick breakfast, we headed to Mallorytown. An hour and fifteen minutes later we arrived at our destination. Before us was 150 acres of brome and canary grass, strips of corn rows, and a little brush mixed in, that John would be using for cover for the pheasants. When we drove up to the farm house and kennels, you could definitely hear the barking of a lot of dogs that were being housed there. Greeted by John, we were introduced to Mike Birtch, who was working at the plantation on weekends and after school. Mike helped clean the dog stalls, the feeding and bathing of the dogs and anything else that needed to be done around the premises.
