Perret 4255. This printed journal records the 18-day travels made in early August, 1846, by the writer, whom Thioly identifies in his preface only as “P. W.” According to the Swiss National Library, the author is Pierre Wolff, who describes his journey from Geneva to Bonneville and from there by foot across glaciers, valleys and peaks to Grindelwald and home. En route he meets several people: M. Martins, i.e. Charles Martins, who in 1844 made an ascent of Mont Blanc with Auguste Bravais and Dr Lepileur; and M. Dolffus, who continued the work of Agassiz and Desor on the Aar glacier. This pamphlet is scarce, with only two copies located on Worldcat (both in Switzerland).

Neate T69; Perret 4345. Francis Fox Tuckett (1834-1913) was a leading climber of the golden age of Alpinism. After initial climbs around Chamonix, Zermatt, and elsewhere, in the 1860s he pioneed climbing in the Dolomites, for which he won recognition from King Victor Emmanuel II. A few of his climbs were recorded in articles published in the Alpine Journal (reproduced here), but the vast majority of his accounts were unpublished before the appearance of the present work.
