community as “outside the norm,” because they practice radical sexuality. It’s interesting, because for so much of the LGBT community’s history, everything we did was considered outside the norm, so why not celebrate all of it: leather, kink, fetish, whatever it is that “trips your trigger.” In the immortal words of an outside-the-norm master, RuPaul, “We all came into this world naked. The rest is all drag.” Celebrating their culture and defining their values is exactly what San Diego Leather Pride is all about…And they are doing it at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park (and other locations), fromWednesday, March 15 to Sunday, March 19. VICTORY FUND CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH Since 1991, Victory Fund has made it their goal to recruit, train and elect openly LGBT leaders to public office around the country. Their mission: “To change the face and voice of America’s politics and achieve equality for LGBT Americans by increasing the number of openly LGBT officials at all levels of government.” Over the past five years in California, they have helped elect 62 LGBT candidates to public office at all levels of government. Electing LGBT leaders, especially in light of last November’s outcome, gives the LGBT community a face and voice in politics, challenging the fear-mongering of extremists by speaking authentically about who we are, our families and our community. OnSunday, March 5, join Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia and former Army Secretary Eric Fanning, along with others, at the Bahia Resort Hotel on 998 W. Mission Bay Drive for a Champagne Brunch. Get to know the organization and its supporters and help change the face and voice of America’s current political climate by getting involved. For more information about the Victory Fund, check out their Facebook page at facebook. com/victoryfund.
