SAM Splint 241 SAM SPLINT
Acclaimed by emergency care providers and outdoor activity centres worldwide, the SAM® SPLINT is based on a universally recognised engineering principle: curves are strong.
Built from a thin core of aluminium alloy, sandwiched between two layers of closed-cell foam the SAM® SPLINT is extremely mouldable, and soft enough to cut with ordinary household scissors. Yet when bent into any of three simple curves, it becomes extremely strong and supportive for any fractured or injured limb.
With the proper choice of curves almost any bone in the body can be splinted. It’s even possible to use the SAM® SPLINT to create an emergency cervical collar for neck injuries.
IMPROVED ONE PIECE DESIGN APPLIES IN 3 EASY STEPS
The SAM Sling™ effectively reduces and stabilizes unstable pelvic fractures. It can be quickly and safely applied on the scene, before transport or in an emergency department.
The SAM Sling™ is a reusable, non-invasive, easy to use device, which can be applied by paramedics at the accident scene to individuals who have, or are suspected of having a pelvic ring or lateral pelvic fracture.
The SAM Sling™ is the first and only pelvic belt or binder to contain a buckle programmed to engage when the correct, safe amount of constrictive pressure is applied. This protects the patient from further injury and allows for safe application on scene by EMS personnel.
Pelvic-ring fractures are associated with a high mortality rate of up to 25%, mainly due to internal bleeding. The recommended method of dealing with a suspected open book pelvic-ring fracture is circumferential compression of the pelvis with a sheet or belt. This method (performed correctly) will greatly stabilise an open book pelvic fracture and therefore constitutes an effective means to control a life threatening haemorrhage.
Research showed the unique SAM Sling™ Belt was highly effective in reducing and stabilizing unstable open book pelvic fractures. The SAM Sling™ is first placed under the buttock region at the level of the greater trochanters and then circumferentially tightened by pulling in opposite directions on the anterior handles. An innovative Buckle provides force and audible feedback when the circumferential pull-force has reached 150N (33lbs), at which point the belt is fastened to maintain optimal reduction and stabilization.
The Sam Sling™ is radiolucent and padded for comfort. The anterior section of this device is sufficiently narrow to allow for examination, catheterisation and access to the femoral vessels. The Sam Sling is reusable and can be cleaned with common detergents or anti-microbial solutions.
